being sued by Games Workshop for 'unfair competition' for releasing figures which can be used in Games Workshop games.. mmm last I knew, GW was kinda starting to has money issues so it seams odd..

doesn't give enough information for me to say much just an interesting side-note.

kinda. which is the only reason I wanted to bring this up. It's not really an oldhammer thing but if it's a sign that GW are getting desperate enough to try to go after small companies like this.. I think there are a number of people here which would be interested to atleast be aware of events.

Their lawyers have been doing this for a while now. There is some debate to be had over the terms of this latest C&D, will be interesting to see where it goes in the courtroom…

most of these things don't get that far but it would be nice when someone is able to get the money and press it to court cause that sets up a precedent.

I saw another video about this the other day. Would it not mean that every company in the world that produces models in about a 28mm ish scale be "unfairly competing" with GW? I'm going to assume even GW are not going as far as to say every object in the world that could proxy for a model in a game is unfairly denting their profits, but presumably just those other companies that make knights, and skeletons, elves and so forth? I assume he must make "space knights" that have some resemblance to our favourite armoured chaps I mean we've been round the loops with GW and of course they got their start "borrowing" ideas from all over the place to help build their worlds before and I thought much of that had been dealt with where it wasn't super clearly 1:1 design.

Doubt they will be winning many of their older fans, but I suppose to at least play devils advocate the customer base isn't so much about retention now as signing up new people (like many businesses appear to operate) and they are perhaps not targeting the classic hobbyist of yesteryear, but a wider audience so feel they need to protect their IP or loose it (or maybe loose the confidence of share-holders). At the risk of going a little off topic (copyright rather than competition) ... with that KS it's not like someone playing Orks currently was going to buy that over buying some current GW Orks was it? Or like GW were still selling the classic miniature, hell if they did reproduce it and sell it for a reasonable price I expect most people who'd backed that KS would have bought it!

I would put this in a different case cause.. yeah.. with that KS, GW do have a bloody strong case. not a nice thing but a strong case

GW sent letters to dozens of creators, I've known at least 3 of them in person who stopped their little operations on their tracks because they couldn't afford that kind of legal process (one of them being little chibi /superdeformer versions, covered by copyright laws etc).

I don't like Ghamak's designs (I'd even say I dislike them), but GW winning this is bad for everyone.

As a customer the only thing I can do is speak with my money: No new BB starter, no khemri team, no WHQ: Darkwater and no nurgle new releases (that's my main army the last 10 years).

Another good reason for buying 2nd hand lead models from regular people and FLGS.

GW have been litigous for decades. Having got where they are stealing designs from comics, films, album covers, book jackets etc. they are using their share of the market to keep others out of it as nobody can afford to fight them. The chapterhouse case put them off for a bit, but it seems GW legal are back.

That said, there are a lot of direct rip offs out there, and with the hobby going all 3d printing I can see why they are worried.

I've got a "nuke from orbit" button on my keyboard for sites that use Spikey Bits the site that shouldn't be named. With all respect, that post is as reliable as a dead parrot. [warning: this is a joke].
