Genestealer Coven - Building the Cult

I figured that's what you we're getting at, thanks! I gave him a little more attention on the carapace, mostly because there was more to work on. I highlighted with a bone colour rather than white, and I tried to add spots to the carapace like lobster shell. The purple glaze I added to the arm right at the end is a new addition, and it helped a fair bit I think. I'm acutely aware this scheme has to work on purestrains, who are mostly carapace.

The extra attention really shows on those carapace bits. You realise that you are just going to have to take that plunge and paint up a purestrain....in fact you probably should have started the project like that in hindsight, ahh well.

Cheers. Yeah, I should probably have done that first, but sometimes practicality has to play second fiddle to enthusiasm. Incidentally, any movement on our super secret cult project? Don't worry, nobody here will tell...

The funny thing is that I painted a purestrain before I did any other cult members. After I had done some hybrids, magus, heirarch and cultists I had decided that I definitely was not going to paint the other purestrains in the exact same way.

Currently I have both of your source pictures pinned to my work partition so that I can constantly mentally absorb them. There is a big Boyldrick shaped blockage in my pipeline at the moment which I really want to get out of the way before I work on anything else. Whenever I try to paint a model well it seems to take fecking ages, but I can't be hacking up limited editions and then not painting them to the best of my ability. At least the little bugger is nearly done now. One thing that I have learned from the Halflequin project is that when working to a high quality finish, I actually sculpt quicker than I can paint. With any luck he will be closed off by the end of the weekend and I can get back to pushing some green stuff on our SUPER SECRET BUT TOTALLY OLDHAMMER AWESOME project.

comes by wistling, hand in pocket...

Hi guys, how you doin' ?

Watcha talkin' about? You're up to somethin' good these days?

SO GOOD. You wouldn't believe the awesome. I don't want to take any gusto from Sean's epic halflequin though, so no more talk of it for now...

Oh good, I thought you were up to something super secret and super exciting, we wouldn't want to disturb Sean from his project, right ? The world needs a Halfequin you know.

After spending a long damn time on my painting table, the heavy weapon hybrid is done, and he brings the hybrid squad up to half strength.

Thanks very much. Here is more of this sort of thing. A meltagun toting 2nd generation, or brother Char to his fellows. The base model is a Mantic Games Plague model from Deadzone. I added a masked head to give him a little adeptus mechanicus feel. The gun arm took some work, a I had to change the position to lower the weapon so I could add the strap to give it some weight. A little greenstuff, an extra arm and some talos bits for stim injectors and there he is.

After some serious detective work I managed to get my hands on some Rogue Trader Imperial robots for use with my adeptus mechanicus genestealer cult. The first off the assembly line is this venerable castellan. It's my favourite of the old robots, and was a real treat to paint. I've kept him in mechanicus colours, albeit somewhat tarnished and battle worn. I figure the cult isn't too big on keeping it's machines in parade condition when it's fighting for control of the cities.

Their on my "to do list", I've got a whole bunch of those guys. They look great!

I like the two tone colour scheme you've chosen, red/metallic. Breaks up the joins nicely. Did you paint a reflection on his visor or is it the reflection of the camera on a glossy surface? It's hard to tell from picture.

You got anymore in the works?

Thanks Optimus. The reflection is just the gloss varnish, I figured it's a curved surface, let the varnish do the work!

There are 4 more on the way, the whole range, fingers crossed.

That really is coming along nicely. Wish I had the spares to trade you, but I have blessed little spare left and no spare hybrids. I'll PM you a list of what I do have once I get a fresh one knocked up. Never would have thought to put a robot in a cult. Very nice.
