Games Day 1989 - Fantasy Miniatures

I agree with both of you - there is plenty of room for all sorts of different painting styles. I actually do like the new styles aswell, but I do think that the old style has a special charm or soul. However, I think that I might be sort of "nostalgia biased" ;) I guess it's the same psychological mechanism that's at work if you watch two different versions of the same movie - often you prefer the one you watched first :)

I know what you mean. It's like some of the old retro games I have acquired in recent years. In my mind I remember hem being the greatest games ever; and much more fun than recent versions. However on playing them I am saddened to realise they are just clunky messes!!! I suppose my tastes were less refined in 1989!

I was a finalist in '88 and '89, and I was gutted that my models never made the books. Don't have the models, but still got the T-shirt somewhere though, lol.
Ah, so that's where the avatar comes from!

There's also Heroes For Wargames

Which is more studio paintjobs than competition entries, but much more my cup of tea.
Received one yesterday. Quite awesome.

I dislike the current studio style a lot. I also quite dislike the style of "my times" which were early 2000s. I like the 80s style and current Blanchitsu. I have an impression the 80s studio style was very strongly influenced by John Blanche which is the main reason why I like it.

Yup! I got a badge in '88 and a t-shirt in '89! I must dig out the shirt at some point.
