Freehand on leather straps hanging from the armour is another thing I'm not really sure about. Looks somewhat messy and I'm wondering if I should just repaint over them and perhaps use some other colour as well. Opinions appreciated.

I like the freehand on the leather straps and think it would be a shame to paint over it. I do think that if you could add another colour in to hint at shading on the line work (darker grey?) that would maybe improve it further. Maybe a darker line at the bottom edges for example? I think just a hint of it there would probably fool the eye into seeing a more 3D effect.
