Frostgrave

Anyone else tempted with this upcoming rules/miniatures release?
I must admit I'm loving the minis by Mark Copplestone in particular, and the game's background is interesting, a frozen city full of magical treasures fought over by wizards, their apprentices and hired henchmen. Although it is officially very human-centric (with the exception of the undead) it would probably be easy enough to shoehorn in my warhammer minis into.

Yea, I'm very tempted. If it weren't for a personal grudge with the U.S. distributor, I'd probably have ordered a bunch already!

I was tempted and failed to resist so have treated myself to what wil be a slightly late birthday present when released.
I like the concept of the background and the minis look fantastic so as a Copplestone fan how could I resist

That looks great area23! I love the broken mosaic floors on your ruins.
I'll probably go for at least level 2 in a few days, I'm undecided about the henchmen box level pledge just yet, although the 3-ups look fantastic, I'll probably wait and see how the actual sprues look, mainly to see the weapon/equipment options available on them. I've never really got into this new fangled plastic thing I must admit.
I've been digging through my lead pile for wizards, which I have enough of, but the matching apprentice thing really swings it for the Frostgrave minis, and as I don't intend to pay ebay prices for the citadel AD&D magic user packs which might make for nice wizard/apprentice combos, i'll probably just buy the frostgrave ones.

I'm pretty stoked by it really... but I won't join the Nickstarter as I'm most likely only looking to get the rule book. The minis are great, but I already have a shitload of unpainted lead in the same vein so will focus on that instead.

I've been following Area23's progress with great interest, but I will depart from the whole frost and snow fluff myself.

The minis and the artwork look nice. Is there any more info out there about the game itself?

The author's blog is here , there's a few tidbits and an AAR
Details of mechanics have been somewhat sparse, hopefully it's due to the exclusive previews in gaming mags and not because it's a bit pants :)

Yeah, surprisingly sparse. Some decent guys who have been play testing though, and Joe is a good egg so I hope it all makes sense.

I've never been interested in artic or winter environments for my miniatures, but this time it worked for me. But it's just fluff, and as I understand the special rules for snow are few and should be easily transformed or explained in other environments.
On Lead Adventure there's a long topic with lots of insights on the dinamics. D20 based, like a kind of D&D skirmish. Focused on scenarios and campaigns, not competition.
Apparently nobody expected so much anticipated interest, which is why there isnt much online information yet.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Copplestone figures, and like the idea behind the game, so will be buying into it. Just working out what level to go for though, as much as I'd like all of the figures, the chance of more than a handful seeing paint is remote.

For the same reason i did 3d level. You get all the free goodies and a box of plastics to play with.
after you can pick any extra packs you want from the nickstarter shop page.

I told myself I don't need another project but that failed and along with seeing all the Warmonger greenskins I've descided to combine the both nd do a Frostgrave Orc Warband.

As there are no non-humans stats they'll just run as Knights and Thugs

Well, I've settled on these two ladies for my mages, should have plenty of the citadel/foundry mercs as thugs and a few other minis from old fighter ranges to bulk up the force.

Nice one... are they a wizard and apprentice pair or two opposed wizards?

The three stage ADD minis are actually rather great to make wizard and apprentice pairs. Hadn't considered them before. You just need to mix them up so you don't have the same stage 1 and stage 3 model in the same pair.

I've paired up my Metal Magic models for pairs for each school, plus a few extra pairs (beastman, chaos dwarf and various others). I'll see if I can get them out and line them up for some photos.

They are for wizard/apprentice duo. Gonna do one Human band, one Dwarf. Finding suitable 'thugs' in dwarf form is difficult, there's not many unarmoured dwarf models with a hand weapon.
The humans are a bit easier, foundry militia for thugs and some citadel AD&D assassins, rogues and old citadel fighters for the other guys.
Likewise, i'll post a pic when I have decided on the group make-up.

I'm going with these two as my Wiz + Apprentice.

Rollinson the Apprentice, old Citadel. I painted this one in about 1999/2000 during my "Kevin Dallimore Period". Not really up to modern standards but I've stripped a lot of old PJs over the past couple of years and felt I really ought to start preserving some.

I've gone for generic urban ruins on the bases rather than mucking about with snow as I imagine the models will be used in SoBaH and Mordheim, especially as I retired my Mordheim Possesed warband after Tuesdays game.
