Flying Gargoyles of Barda

Always one of my favourite Regiments of Renown. I've had them for a long time but only recently seen any paint. I am desperate to get hold of the Musician and Standard Bearer if anyone can help.

Very nice! Love the shields and bases; a very good looking unit indeed.

If I may, though, I'd like to say that I have a problem with the wings: they don't really look part of the bodies. A strip of gs textured like the rest of the body running down the middle of each wing pair would help out tremendously, I guess.

Yeah I see what you mean. I suppose both leader and troopers are quite different in skin type; scales and fur respectively. The wings are probably a bit unsuited to both.

Nice!!! You don't see these guys being painted too often

Big fan of the RoR - really like the backgrounds that comes with them.

Thanks Hans. Think I've only seen one other example of these guys painted ever. Yeah, RoR was a great range. Only problem with it was only having one command figure per box. Could get expensive.

These are a rarity & you have done a good job with them. I really like how you chose to orient them vertically instead of on flying bases.

Do you have more on the way? Not easy to do, but it would be nice to see a decent force of these guys. :)

Thanks Naagruz. Yeah I just felt that positioning them horizontally on flying stands took too much visibility away from them. Have only got one more trooper but he is missing a leg. Just desperate to get hold of the musician and standard bearer.

Lovely work, shields and colour scheme all together. Long looked at the old b&w photos and wondered what they really looked like... wiked little imps, that's what, thanks for sharing!

To be honest, I've never seen these guys before  (a bit before my time) but they are really cool, I wish Warhammer still had more obscure stuff like this.

Thanks very much Zhu. I did toy with idea of painting them in stone at first. Yeah I remember only having a rather unclear picture of them in the Third Citadel Compendium and never really knowing what they really looked like. Wasn't really till I got them off ebay that I actually saw them properly for the first time.

They never really were publicised much, Bruno. Plus they weren't available for too long either. Never made the 1988 catalogue so I'm guessing 2-3 years maximum.

Yeah me too. They are really cool though being, in my head, somewhere between a beastman and a flying monkey :D . They would look great in a fez. I didn't notice the wings as being disjoint from the minis to be honest. Paint jobs are great and shield designs work nicely to complement them.
