[five parsecs from home] marduk station & the traders of doom: the crew of the unfortunate misunderstanding

continued from previous page:

Klint fired at the Enemy Boss, taking him out of action with the third blast.

The adjacent Zealot moved around the off road vehicle and fired his Colony rifle at Klint, without success.
The Specialist moved across the rooftop to gain line of sight and snapped off a shot at Klint. The exertion of lugging the heavy Hunting rifle, put her aim off and the round passed harmlessly through the bodywork of the car her target hid behind.
The Zealot Lieutenant moved around the barrels, and snapped a shot at the Gunbot. The shot hit and putting Synapse down.
The Zealot next to him followed his lead and took a shot at Bonny, without success.
The remaining Zealot moved from the corner of the storage unit to take cover behind the barrels his comrades had just vacated.

Dazel moved up to the patch of vegetation in front of her and fired her Beam pistol at the Zealot by the off road vehicle, but the shot went wide.
Jokaero 7 moved to the other rear corner of the van and fires at the Zealot closest to him. He hit and took her out of action with his Infantry rifle.
Bonny rushed the Lieutenant, firing her Hand cannon, taking him down.

Shocked by the crew’s aggressive response to their ambush, the remaining Zealots left the field.

Looks like great fun, and well photographed too. I gravitate towards to “perspective” photos especially.

Since the roads have them painted on them already & you have vehicles you could probably kick off a scenario where things have gone south because someone parked on the double yellows...

not a bad shout. i'd have to find some decent figures for adeptus negotiatio custodi; or should it be adeptus custos viarum?

I'm not fantastic but.. what you guys trying out for? I mean, Custos, would be guardian, keeper, guard etc.. Varium is surely Various, different etc.. Negotiatio is ... person doing bussiness...

I am not in any way proficient with Latin. I have worked in software localisation/localization (L10N*) & internationalisation/internationalization (I18N*). Words can change meaning based on context. Translation isn't always symmetrical - that is, translating to another language & back again may subtly or wildly change meaning. I don't know if software translation has gotten better but it used to be full of my hovercraft is full of eels problems.

*No one could agree on the English spelling.

yep ^_^ machine translation is only good as a rough base which a skilled editor needs to go with, but the edit needs atleast some experience. Or the better way is to get a native speaker or expert (cause a language like Latin is dead so even the people who profess to speak it, don't really know how some words are pronounced... much like English ^_^

years ago I did a french comic translation which.. I will admit some of the choices I made weren't the best but when I couldn't figure out a way to naturally make the line work in English, I had to do my best, and gave a couple of pages of notes at the end. I don't speak much french are all, but I had a friend that did.. kinda.. He was French Canadian.. the comic was french-french.. which isn't 100% the same due to a few hundred years of evolution (he visited France once and had a nice story about trying to order something in a restaurant in French but couldn't make the waiter (speaking French) understand cause of some of the changes, so they ended up being two French people speaking English to understand each other) .

Slang and sayings can be the worse. "Il n'y va Pas avec Le Dos de la cuill re" was a major one I had a problem with at the time. though these days I could deal with a better localisation then I went with.

thank you.

never expected anyone to say that to me.

You make your shots feel appropriately cinematic with good framing and getting the camera down to eye level. Focal length is a hard problem to solve with miniatures, and apart from focus stacking, which requires a very stable shot location and bit of post processing, I don't know a good one. (I've tried to use shots at infinite focal length, but the field of view is always problematically large.) Anyway, your composition and framing are quite good, and that goes a long way to make up for any other issues. The shots tell a good story, which is what they need to do. So yes, good photos.

The Colonial Police might work pretty well.

turn 13.

Word was out that the Red Purity Accord were looking for some freelancers for a prolonged contract; Captain Bonny decided that the crew could do with some stability and duly applied for the role. With the first job in hand, she then took measures to ensure they wouldn't be interrupted by Humanity First.
Dazel and Klint both spent time training, the former spiritually and the latter physically. Spog went exploring and lost a Colony rifle to a bunko artist. Gunbot H09TE 'Synapse' also had a wonder around and met some locals with whom he had a nice chat. Jokaero 7 meanwhile obtained a Displacer in a trade.

Red Purity Accord are an advocacy group, although it wasn't entirely clear to Bonny what they advocate. Regardless, they were looking to build housing in a remote location but their construction crew had pulled out due to problems with the local wild life. The crew were to go in and secure the site so that work could recommence. There was an extra credit of danger pay for the job.

The jungle canopy filtered much of the light from the sun, resulting in restricted visibility on the ground.

Spog and Gunbot H09TE moved forward through the murk, seeking to determine what faced them.

The Sand Runners rushed through the foliage, seeking to get to grips with the interlopers.

The rest of the crew followed Spog and Synapse’s example and made best speed into the jungle.

another three:

Dazel spotted something human-made on the jungle floor and moved fowards to secure it.
Bonny hustled up to the generator, looking to support the Hacker.
Spog moved up the flank, keen to get their opponents in his sights.
Although they could hear the approach of large beings, none of the three were able to glimpse what was coming through the gloom, until too late to react.

Three of the Sand Runners converged on the Captain, one moved up towards Spog keeping hidden behind a large tree and the other two did the same on the opposite flank, moving towards Klint and Jokaero 7.

Gunbot H09TE advanced up a low rise, to discover a Sand Runner nest, before it’s processors were able to decide what to do about this they were over-ridden by the sight of an adult Sand Runner at the edge of the Beam Light’s penetration. The robot’s programming prompted it to raise the Fury rifle and squeeze the trigger. The high calibre round found it’s target and the Sand Runner dropped.
Hearing the shot, Klint pressed forward with renewed vigour, his eyes straining. He was rewarded with his first sight of a Sand Runner, and he opened fire with the Hyper blaster. Two shots found their mark, taking another of the animals down.
Jokaero 7 struggled to keep up with his companion, aware of the erstwhile Bounty Hunter's propensity to expose himself to danger. He saw the superheated rounds disappearing into the undergrowth, but was unable to discern their target or effect.

... continued from above.

Two more Sand Runners appeared to defend their nests.

Attempting to prevent being surrounded, Bonny moved to her right and fired point blank at the Alpha Sand Runner. The shot was true and the Sand Runner collapsed.
Realising this was a close quarters fight, Spog slung his Marksman’s rifle, favouring his Laser pistol. Continuing forward a Sand Runner came into sight. Spog snapped a shot at it; at such short range he could not miss, and the creature dropped.
Klint was less willing to give up the hard hitting power of his Hyperblaster. He moved to his left to get a clearer shot at his next target. The Sand Runner didn’t stand a chance.

The last remaining original Sand Runner advanced on Captain Bonny. The two new arrivals moved forward.

Looking to support the Captain, Dazel moved to her left and took a shot at the Sand Runner across the generator. The beam from her pistol found its mark and the animal dropped.
Jokaero 7 sought to reestablish contact with Klint, while Synapse moved up towards Bonny.

The remaining Sand Runners decided the crew represented too great a threat, and disappeared back into the jungle.

spog shows he can mix it up at close range too:

Turn13 Round3h.jpg

the crew were paid a total of five credits; they found a data stick that would help them progress their work for the red purity accord, as well as an upgrade kit which captain bonny used to increase the range of her hand cannon.
word of their activities got out to the wrong people and the crew gained another rival.
bonny was able to regain her lost luck point, leaving spog as the only member of the crew without any luck.
