First painted model in 18 years

So, having just got back in to painting 40k again, I started by painted up bases for my old top pieces to get used to holding a brush again.

So a few days ago I completes my first mini in 18 years, I must say i am happy. One thing I noticed I had more of an eye for detail and was more relaxed, maybe no pressure trying to paint a large army in a time frame.

Just got to base him up.

Great choice of model for your comeback. The paint job is great - no sign of rustiness from your break!
 
Gooooosh, I have those wiating for me based and primed but I might wait for a while just to let people forget yours, they're pretty cool ! Excellent textures and very "clear" colour scheme. Brilliant !
 
The colours on the blade are wonderful. Very like the iridescent colours on metalwork that has been irregularly heated with a blowtorch.
 
Thanks for the comments guys it means a lot. Well, when I decided to do this guy, I wanted him to look real, and not like a cartoon. The light source is coming from his left hand side meaning the his right hand side is darker, the sword is painted so its like its just coming down through the temperature range (from burning Nemesis weapon) It almost tells a story, like his just used his weapon. i have 4 more to paint in this scheme, but im changing the light source on each model.
 
Glad to have you back amongst the painters, looking forward to more of this quality inspiration! The metallics look great, and the sword is really original and well executed. A more than welcome break from the blue crystal blade style.

That really is impressive. Good choice of miniature and incredible paint job to bang it.
 
Nice! Good to see some experiments with metallic paint. I'm not the biggest fan of "non metallic metal", so it's cool to see a similar effect with "proper" metals, if that makes sense :lol:

Exactly, I didn't use a conventional base or undercoat, just a ink wash, then painted in the silver metallic and golds and went from there, To highlight the silver I actually tinted the silver with white to form a almost non-metallic highlight, to creat a two tone effect... I was in two minds at first but happy with the outcome. Im going to do a 5 man squad like this, already started on the second one already.
