Epic Space Marines

I'm probebly getting too much into this.. or atleast in getting some figure in a useable 'force' state.. Two cheap auctions have me with a bunch of marines and some vechicles, but no titans ¬_¬

though I'm getting confused with unit make ups..
) A Devastator unit.. right.. for the state cards I got for my space wolves, no problem.. 4 figure stands and 2 rhinos.. now.. normally a devastator unit (long fangs) have all the figures apart from stg with heavy weapons.. Epic only seams to have made one type of heavy weapon mini, which is fine but the base make up.. should they all (apart from the stg have a heavy weapon? or not.. really, might not matter but..... yeah.. I try to do what I think is best.. I have a made up stand (which I can redo.. no problems with any of them) which has only 2 with heavy weapons and 3 normal.. now, that would mean if I have 4 heavys, I can make up 2 stands which is probebly fair enough as a proxy, but should it be all 4?

) 2nd space marine seams to say Assault troops (blood claws) all HAVE jump packs.. yet I seam to have a base of what are clearly plastic assault troops without the jump pack.. yet it was one piece plastic.. seams a bit odd to me..

I'm gonna have to try to pick up some more to complete some units (like you have 2 bikes per base, a unit is 5 bases.. I have 3 bikes.. so 1 and a half base), I have 1 single Terminator, I have the back half of a land speeder which I'm gonna have to try to build a front half for) but there is some customising I'm gonna want to do at some point.. like they didn't release special character figures.. at that size, it isn't suprising but a little bit of basic work should do wonders ^_^

They did do specialist characters such as chaplains, tech marines etc. You add one to a stand of other troops to represent the command unit. Some have special rules too. In the later editions (Such as Armageddon) you got special models for the likes of Yarrick.

Be interested to see the assault troops with no jump packs you have. They sound quite cool!

never got as late as Armageddon.. Space Marine version 2 is kinda as far as I got to which is.. a bit odd cause.. when did it get renamed Epic?... can't remember if it was just a subtitle for a long time or not..

The only specialist like characters I got are a standard captain where it's just a figure holding up a sword with a back banner.. I'll be doing some converting work for my troopies and I'll have to take some photos of some of the others.. even with some stuff I've found online, Epic seams very under archived in the figure department.

It became Epic in (I think) 1996 or 1997 with the release of Epic 40k.

I have a couple of the same captain model. They look good in a unit.

fliping through the 1991 Space Marine V2 rules.. probebly had it quite early..
"Space Marine: Epic Conflict in the war torn universe of the 41st Millennium". use of Epic there isn't hugely imporant until you read the copyright which, comments about "(sic) Epic are registered trademarks of Game Workshop Ltd." then the use of the term 'Epic' quite a bit.. 'Epic army cards'.. I wonder if it was kinda used alot and then they just redecided to rename the whole thing..

Looking at some pictures (which are nice quality) of the original epic space marine spurs, I think the ones that look like assault troops without the pack are meant to be unit leaders without the banner. while the outfit has the straps from early marines or jump pack troops, they have a bolt gun/pistol in the left hand and a power fist on the right. this guy I got this lot from just had enough of them to put as a solid base
