Elf obelisk - white dwarf

I'm coming up blank for some reason.. The classic Warhammer 'Elf Obelisk' as I'm pretty sure it is, I'm sure they did do some kinda 'how to make' probably as part of the modelling workshop in white dwarf.. But hell if I can remember when.. I'm pretty sure it wasn't between issues 119 and 140 but right now, that's about the only thing I can say for certain.. Oh, and it would probably be before 119 it first appeared..

I'm kinda SURE there was something... Of course, there are some fan 3D prints of it, which I have one, and I could always go by eye in creating my own, but I'm just wondering cause I'm soo sure it was featured at one point. Oh and I'm aware there was a remake of it in the 5ed 'Tears of Isha' campaign set. but that was a remake and not the original..

Gosh I remember making (or at least starting to) one of those way back. There was a small two tower "castle" as well that I remember seeing at least a few WIP photos of I think. I might have to have a rummage though some WDs!

unless you are thinking of the Tears of Isha version, it's a complete mystery what issue that was from..

#153 and #158 are the first times I found that scenery flicking through - looked from 114 up to about 160 so far... annoyingly found another issue with a template cutout that I might have to replace (these are all ones I re-collected, the childhood collection being elsewhere...). Might make a cuppa and continue the quest!

Not in the 1996 Wargames Terrain, although the Obelisk is mentioned a few times. The 2003 one is likewise lacking (although I thought that would be the case). False memory then or did I just miss it I wonder? Maybe I thought it was so cool I did start to build one and that's why it seems so familiar - I'd have probably done paper templates to try to get the angle correct. Well maybe the above pictures will be enough to get you going Manic! Memory is a funny old thing isn't it!

yeah, possible there never was a build for it, but it's such an iconic GW structure, it seams really weird.. Like I said, they did make some kinda remake of it in Tears of Isha.

Those pictures should be good enough to have a good crack of at. I have some High Elves (well, my father's old ones, mostly unpainted and some still blisted) but I've not really got a Elf army, but well, It's a Classic structure so I really wanted to have a go at making one ^_^ It's pretty simple in theory. the hardest is whatever they used for that winged gem.. looks a bit bigger then the banner top..

I am pretty sure there never was one; was looking for that some years ago. Only card a card cut out version; either WD or one of the 5th ed scenario packs.

oh... Just noticed something... Those pictures show both sides (well, I has 4 but never mind) of the Obelisk.. took a while to double check the trees to confirm it wasn't just two different ones, but..

Oh forgive my lake of knowledge in the high elf runes.. while they used them on banners and stuff, I'm not sure if the ones on the Obelisk says anything or are just random

On side (shown in the first images 01 and 04, who the small tree on the left, big tree on the right, with 3 runes.. a fancy 'y', an infinity symbol, and an R with long bit.

the other side, show in other images, with the big tree on the left, small tree on the right, with 3 different symbols.. a 5, a h and an R without fancy bit (or N).. didn't notice that at first.. also, the winged heart emblem is slightly too high up on that side, where it's move centred on the other side.

Anyway.. been working on a template setup for making this.. from some images, I've roughly worked out it to being 186mm tall in total (cut it up into the base, the upper base, the lower obelisk, the upper obelisk and the tip, with base sit right at the bottom as 50mmx50mm.
