Eldar Pirates & Harlequins!

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

I just started painting up my second squad of the old Jes Goodwin Eldar. Will post results soonish. I opted for clean helms, as I didn't like my early experiments with patterns, but yours look great. Nicely done.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

Heres two more Eldar Raiders

Thats the last of the eldar for now, I'm waiting for two more commanders to arrive in the mail.

But, symph i'd love to see yours. what colors are you doing?

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

It's a yellow and blue scheme basically similar to yours. Here's a pic of the first few coping with their own mortality:

I don't want to hijack your thread, so I'll just post a few pictures in a thread of my own. Yours are a little darker and blacker. Mine are more blue. But the schemes are actually rather similar otherwise. I suspect we were both looking at RT at some point. Anyway, lovely paints and I'm happy to see someone doing that with new(er) GW materials.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

theres no worries, symph. post what you want. But I see yours are much brighter, I like them though. I'm thinking about leaving a couple without the helmet markings as well here and there as my collection grows. Thaks for sharing, I really like their shoulder pads btw.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

Mine are indeed brighter blue. But the general effect is similar enough, I think, that both are fairly clearly Rogue Trader looking. Yours are a little more faithful and mine more impressionistic, perhaps, as I painted them shortly after some swooping hawks I did on commission and didn't look at the GW art until the helmet pattern stage. My painting has gotten a little brighter lately. I still favor darker and richer colors and I still base almost exclusively in black, but I'm attempting a slightly (slightly) cleaner look lately.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

I just got this guy in the mail. I'll be posting him again once I'm done painting him.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

Great work. I am finding it very inspirational for my own, soon to be started, eldar pirates.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

Here he is:

Commander Avele Swifteye

I really like this model. I can tell that Jes used Moondancer's sculpt as a base for this model. It's amazing how a few extra details and a weapon swap go a long way.

@Warburton: I'm glad your finding some good ideas in here, i'll be sure to take a look at your Eldar once you start them!

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

This is a great project, and a worthy commander for it. Nice colour scheme, the purple mask and crest work very well.

Re: Eldar Pirates & Space Marines

Nice work. Love that eldar commander - a bit weird but he works really well as a pirate leader.

Just picked up these bad boys. I'll be working on them sometime very soon, my goal is to add a 5 man Troupe to this Eldar warband.

I expect you'll have great fun with those. If you're accustomed to painting in dark colors painting riotously colorful miniatures can be a strangely liberating experience. It's nice to have an excuse to go the other way once in a while. (And to be fair, the Harlequins can be very nice with dark rich saturated colors. They just ask for a lot of them.) Anyway, good luck. Nice watching your band build up.
