Ebay ridiculousness

I agree, dont worry its just opinions.

Interstingly the title of this thread is "Ebay ridiculousness" which really does imply the prices are farcical, which is related to all the topics raised about money and finance, so I dont think this discussion is derailing the thread!

But Ive said my bit and will now shut up as I dont want to annoy anyone too much ;)

I will just dream of the future time when humans are pets to super intelligent artificial intelligences. The AIs would of course nurture their pets in our funny and cute habits. They will manage our money and stop us abusing it. They will allow us to indulge our strange obsessions, like collecting rare art work and generating new art. Oh to be an Oldhammer'er in the age of the future!

Economics is a system. Money doesn't somehow magically disappear because someone spent it, it just changes hands. The seller now has more to do with what they will, be it feed themselves, give to charities, support business, whatever. The only thing that has changed is who makes the next decision, and who holds a Nuln Spearman. There is no moral or material injury here.

This is truth.
Its not the truth!

Where is the injury? who has been hurt in this exchange?

I can see the moral injury in exploitation of health workers, or gross profits of clothing companies using sweatshop labour, in the corruption at top level sports. But it's a massive jump from these, to claiming there is something morally wrong with a mutually agreed exchange of a Nuln Spearman between two gentlemen.

To be fair, that Nuln spearman and every other figure in existence will just be a cooling puddle of white metal on a radioactive glass wasteland within a few decades, anyway.

Now there's a cheery thought for a monday!

Either that or 3D printing will render all "RARE" minis as common as......as......anything in a few years time! It's inevitable really, just the time frame that's uncertain.

The morals of purchasing non-essential items probably needs to have a thread of it's own; but having just spent an eye-watering £75.00 + £3.95 postage on ebay for 52 figures (admittedly a lot containing Lady McDeath) I feel big spenders like me and the Nuln Spearman guy need to stick together.

I bet that most people on this forum have collections 'valued' at >£1k; so it becomes a judgement call. Is 1000x£1 miniatures morally better than 1x£1000 miniature? If I earn 100x more than the next person surely the value of everything is viewed through that prism.

I personally wouldn't spend £1000 on a miniature, (especially when I plan to make my own Nuln Spearman from the Royal Guard and some greenstuff!) but I have on a watch. Should I have bought a £10 Casio and given the rest to the poor; or left it in the bank; or given it to the government to redistribute? What about £500k on a house?

Anyway before this thread and all it's contributors disappear up their own collective fundaments I've got some paint stripping to do. Mostly C46 Villagers (est. value £5-8 each) if you were curious.

this is why we need to keep politics off this board. now i'm angry with people's stupid opinions and i don't come here to get angry!

If you find that life's too short to put up with EBay keyword spammers etc.

I think the dwarf will go for more.

Bearing in mind they're operating though a Nottingham based shell company, I already have my suspicions on who the seller is.

Spill the beans :)

I do find it somewhat suspect (in my opinion anyway) that the listings are private. Call me a cynic but i always call shill bidding on private auctions. On top of that he's doing second chance offers.

I bid on the Prototype Heroquest wizard and the piece i recieved was not the one displayed in the original picture on the listing. The piece i recieved had a bent staff (the exact same as the one shown from Bryan Ansell's collection) however the one in the listing picture had a straight staff. I've since straightened the staff !

This would suggest he has multiples and i wouldn't be surprised if any of these come up again in future.

Ha, not a chance!

You have to bear in mind though there are only probably four or five people who could have picked up a collection of this magnitude, all of whom are ex-GW very senior management at the time. It's not the sort of collection that a 'normal' GW staffer could have picked up. Occasional pieces maybe, but not this variety of unreleased stuff.

Curious. The seller address is a 'virtual' office. Seems like quite a lot of effort to keep your distance as a seller. I don't disbelieve this is a bona fide collection however as there are some exceptional items - notwithstanding the Nuln Spearman, the Guard Captain & the Combat Card Dwarf (!) - things like the Orc with Polearm and the Marauder Orc crew that set this collection apart as 'real' for me. The fact they are accompanied by comparatively mundane miniatures such as the Wood Elf archers and the Ninjas... Weird.
