eBay Bargains, Deals, etc.

So frustrating. Can you see if it sold?
I still curse myself for forgetting to bid on the 99p start price 'coffin' box of Sentenced complete discography back in 2013. :P

That last one sold. For £100. So probably not actually a bad price, but not the tenner bargain I was hoping for :) Still I must be good for the next few months, since I might have finally decided to become a proper Oldhammer-er and get myself a Spined Dragon ...

Those bargains are so far and few between on eBay that I really loose hope… Last minute/second bidders always sweep in and throw the prices sky high…
I think I got into this collecting hobby a decade too late! 😥
Seriously, I wonder if should be looking at other less desirable manufacturers of models or periods to get a fix of wardollies! 🤔

Having been beaten out of a good deal at the literal last second so many times, it didn't surprise me to learn that there's websites and apps that are designed to snipe for bidders, way faster than a human could.
Not sure if I'd trust them with my bank details though

I never got sniping. Surely just bid your actual maximum then walk away?

If it sells for a penny more and you would have paid that penny then you did not enter your actual maximum.
If everytime you would have bid an extra penny then your bid is infinite, at what point would you refuse to bid that extra penny?
That is your actual maximum.

I'm pretty sure that '80s Mini Figs 15mm Napoleonics would be as cheap as chips 😉

More seriously, me and my former Hitchin club mates periodically run themed 'Trade offs' on WhatsApp. The idea being to swap surplus or duplicate figures. We've had all sorts of themes e.g. Realm of Chaos, Rogue Trader. Seems to work relatively well especially, IMO, for things that are hard or expensive to source.

Maybe you Marauder Dwarf collecting wrong 'uns could do something similar? Ditto the discerning C46 connoisseurs here.

Can't see any reason that trade offs couldn't be run on this forum.

P.S. Drop me a PM with your mobile phone number if you want to connect on WhatsApp.

I agree, and that's what I normally do. For me, the annoyance with these bidding bots is more that you can be watching the count down tick away with you in the lead, being all excited and hopeful, then in the literal last second a flurry of bids floods in quicker than humanly possible. Hopes dashed.. There's technically nothing wrong with it, and I was already always going to be outbid, it just feels off, somehow.

Alas eBay does seem to lend itself to sniping. Afraid I do it myself, but manually and generally I'd say you get a better price. You do of course still risk being out-bid, but far less chance of the price just creeping up to your maximum since any other bids on the auction will be "winning" until that point. I guess the psychology of people seeing interest in an auction and thinking, just another few quid? I think most people don't really want to commit what they are really willing to spend on something because it feels like spending the money despite the proxy bidding system. There must be a bit of legacy also in seeing auctions on TV where people interactively increase their bids, letting eBay do it on your behalf maybe just feels wrong to people?

I'd have lost on the above auction either way - Since the eight knights are probably worth at least £80 and well with the condition and clamshell £100 is probably still a decent deal these days. However I didn't particularly want the miniatures for any reason (okay they'd be cool to have) so I might have bid £30 at the last moment (hoping for a bargain) if I'd remembered and would have been out-bid by someone else's last minute bid.

I guess snipping is just sealed-bids really.

Understandable. The spoil from my lead pile has been heavily depleted over the last few years too. Rough on the late arrivals building collections with eBay prices these days though, ain't it?

Have I said lately how much I hate people who just let your 'best offer' timeout? Accept, Refuse, or better yet, Counter.. but lettting it time out is just bloody annoying (and kinda rude)

I agree it's annoying when there's no response, especially as I try to add a message. I think some sellers may have an automated response to offers, I don't know though if that's possible though as I've not started selling yet. But most offers I've put in have either been rejected instantly or accepted instantly. Where I've had instant rejections I've tried to test it. I've found several times that a 10.5% discount request gets rejected instantly but a 10% one gets automatically accepted for the same item.

Some do set a minimum price so it'll auto reject below that price. It's not hard to set up but I always thought if you have a buy now price and have 'or best offer' you should be willing to accept offers LOWER then the buy now price.. I have found the odd one which didn't.

unrelated I found something for a bit high but acceptable price from Noble Knight games.. but they are yank side and the shipping (despite it being small) is pretty much the same price as the item.. I'm not paying THAT ¬_¬ could have a word with a cousin but would have been better a few weeks back... my aunt flew over for a visit (I thought it was poorly timed but oh well she got home safety).

Oh.. Not quite eBay but... Everyone remember when 'Warhammer' (games Workshop) started being back old models so alot of us brought a model.. then the next year we got a voucher for whatever off.. I brought another with that.. well.. Just got a £10 Voucher.. I guess that's one way for them to get some of my money ^_^
