Thank you god sir! How appropriate!
Will endeavour do do him justice in future battles.

The Alternative Armies mini (Merkat the Firebowler, Dwarven Officer) will join my miner/engineer type models me thinks.

After the performance of the bolt thrower last week, have based & primed it alongside a more modern 3d print.IMG_0714.jpeg

My basing technique has been updated a little too, I picked up a small tub of mini gravel for larger stone, which I drop loosely onto the ground texture paint, then a sprinkle of sand and a little bicarb just to add some textural variations. Watered down PVA/Mod Podge to seal it all on.

Sunday was the culmination of the TOW campaign run at my local game centre. Played 3 games over the course of the day.

Game 1 was against an army of the new Cathayans! Unsurprisingly they are annoyingly buffed, but the general listed a pretty reasonable army. Was proud of my slayers who stood their ground and demolished a unit of heavy cavalry, and my cannon blasted a sky lantern to the ground after it took out a number of my units! Result was a draw (but could have gone much worse if continued).

Game 2 was against Tomb Kings who kept resurrecting despite my attempts to burn them to a crisp with a flame cannon, rangers and cannon fire… My dwarf warriors with great weapons however wiped out a unit of snake riding Necropolis Knights and had control of the most quarters of the board, so resulted in a win!

Game 3 was a rematch against a grot horde led by a hulking goblin on a chariot (not the named one you may be familiar with as this is a few thousand years in the past…). Had some really poor roles with my war machines and my rangers were overwhelmed by snotlings, whilst a giant stomped, belly flopped and generally caused mayhem with my rear troops. The slayers put up a brave fight, but were skewered, netted and overwhelmed by night goblins… Unsurprisingly it was a defeat.

Afterwards there was some prize giving and the opportunity to impact leaderboard placing with some amusing random encounters based on “treasure” acquired during the campaign. Glad to say I came out joint 6th place (out of 14 players), not bad considering I was new to the rules set and very creaky with the rules overall. However, the Goblin Horde won overall and got to name the island “The Git Hole”!

Well done! Sounds like it was fun, I assume you're now writing up your book of grudges and composing lamentations for the slain!

How long are ToW games? I'm assuming there is perhaps a turn limit or some kind of condition that ends the game?

Yes, there are turn limits depending on the scenario/game mission , but was also time limits that needed to be called to fit 3 games (and a lunch break!) in the day. ;)

The dwarves are hatching plans! We are having a break for a couple of weeks before arranging more games. Was talk of a huge seige game at some point. I may suggest smaller games of Mordheim too…

Did someone say huge siege game? Time to break 'em out...

And no I don't quite remember exactly getting them all, but evidently I did. They are only out as I meant to sort through them and decide which walls were already damaged and might get used as breaches and so forth, but another thing that is on the endless todo list!

My body is ready!!

The giant cart has been returned and a smaller print requested!
It is not unheard of for barrel carts to be that large, but the scale was just ludicrous (even for beer drinking Dwarves!). ;)
A somewhat smaller print of the cart arrived in the post, the Dwarfs are pleased (or are they? ;)):
