Sunday was the culmination of the TOW campaign run at my local game centre. Played 3 games over the course of the day.
Game 1 was against an army of the new Cathayans! Unsurprisingly they are annoyingly buffed, but the general listed a pretty reasonable army. Was proud of my slayers who stood their ground and demolished a unit of heavy cavalry, and my cannon blasted a sky lantern to the ground after it took out a number of my units! Result was a draw (but could have gone much worse if continued).
Game 2 was against Tomb Kings who kept resurrecting despite my attempts to burn them to a crisp with a flame cannon, rangers and cannon fire… My dwarf warriors with great weapons however wiped out a unit of snake riding Necropolis Knights and had control of the most quarters of the board, so resulted in a win!
Game 3 was a rematch against a grot horde led by a hulking goblin on a chariot (not the named one you may be familiar with as this is a few thousand years in the past…). Had some really poor roles with my war machines and my rangers were overwhelmed by snotlings, whilst a giant stomped, belly flopped and generally caused mayhem with my rear troops. The slayers put up a brave fight, but were skewered, netted and overwhelmed by night goblins… Unsurprisingly it was a defeat.
Afterwards there was some prize giving and the opportunity to impact leaderboard placing with some amusing random encounters based on “treasure” acquired during the campaign. Glad to say I came out joint 6th place (out of 14 players), not bad considering I was new to the rules set and very creaky with the rules overall. However, the Goblin Horde won overall and got to name the island “The Git Hole”!
