Doom Diver Survival?

Today was a grand day and to top it off, models fresh from Ral Partha came in the mail.

Now, one particular set was for Skitt, which was the Ratman Kamakaze Rocket crew. Awesome model and she just had to have it for the coming battle for the Anvil.

We decided to use the Goblin Doom Diver rules for it, for fun and to represent the kind of madness the model gives off, but it got me thinking....

I never played Goblins in 4th edition when the Doom Diver came out, but a friend of mine did... well, he painted them anyway. I remember him saying something about a small chance of survival after impact, where they would have to walk back to the slingshot for another go, but I can't really find any rules other than the modifications on launching and impact and base size... all the way up to 8th ed.

Anyone ever heard of a Doom Diver surviving, or do they all end up as mush?

This is the little guy with his buddies if anyone wants to looksie ^_^

Great models, the rules for the Goblin Doom divers would make it I think. I just played once against an doom diver. I cannot recall one surviving. But anyway the are Gobbos, there are always enough to die in a weird way.

I seem to remember that there was always a crowd of "eager volunteers" and the doom diver catapult didn't run out of ammo....

while i can't cite my response, i am 99% sure that the doom diver is always killed, but there is considered to be unlimited ammo as there are loads of gobbos waiting for a chance to splatter the enemy.

Ha, I have that model and never thought of the Doom Diver rules....

The surviving goblin sounds made-up. There may have been a mention in a background piece, but not in the rules.

Question is, is it painted, Zoggin?

I'm thinking the fanciful survival just may be an interpretation of the unlimited ammo.

Still.... loads of fun to be had.

I am ahead! I ... have ... named mine ..... <.< ...... >.>
not really ahead is it ...?

Ok Zog, I wanna see how you paint em up now. :p

You know what? I'll take your suggestion and paint it next! It's funny but since you mentioned it, I was thinking it would be a good excuse to post in the "never painted before" thread. I've never painted an "alternative Skaven" before, nor a model with a rocket strapped to its back.
