Don Hans Chaos Army Gallery

Wow! The colours on those are amazing. Is that careful blending and drybrushing or something else? Do you have some metallic or iridescent medium mixed in there?

Thanks Magos!

It is only Citadel Layer paints (and one Base colors as well) that has been used. I build up the colors using thin layers of very diluted paint where each layer is quite translucent. With enough layers you get a nice depth and a bit of shine in the colors. Some areas on the giant snail might have 30 layers or so ...

A few more beasts and beatman to the Beastmen unit: C29 Giant Beetle, C38 Goatman and C22 Giant Snail
The colour effects are just crazy, looking fantastic! I doubt I'll ever find the patience to attempt your technique :(

I agree, I have never seen colours quite like yours - they are just spectacular.

I am certainly going to have to try your technique, it simply would not have occurred to me to add colours like green to things like the skeleton horse but it makes it so much more interesting than just doing it cream/white.

I have no words to describe your snail

Great stuff & your unique style is a visual feast!

Very inspiring work, so keep it up! I've pulled at least half a dozen ideas out of your pics. Thanks!

Thank you very much!

A few more to the Beast(men) unit. A Weretiger and a slugman. A group shot as well of the unit so far

Said it on the blog Hans but your Ral partha Troll is just the thing. Eerie and creepy, just the way it's meant to be. Have to find one now DAMN !

Oh and for those interested, Golgfag posted a link to a broo like those here in the marketplace ebay deals...

Wow. Brilliant models, and totally unique.

Love those pre slotta beastmen especially (and the borders around your pics!).

May I ask how you do your shields? Are they transfers or do you draw them? I think the black and white works really well to balance the amazing colours, very effective. The troll is of course excellent

I wanted to add to the praise. Your work is inspiration. I don't think I have the patience to go with the layer approach you use but I am willing to give it a try some time soon and see how it goes.

Brilliant work.

Hello,

Thank you all for your comments - very much appreciated!

@ Asslessman: These trolls are quite common actually. You'll easily find one on eBay.

@ Selkie: About the shields. It’s basically brush and paints but I do a sketch before I start.
  • - I start with a white base on the shield
    - Usually do a sketch of the main "elements" of the design on a paper
    - I draw a few of the main lines with a pencil on the shield
    - Then paint in the black with a high quality brush that holds quite a lot of color and have a very thin point. I add more detail than in the sketch. Usually deviate from the sketch as the painting progress.
    - Last step is "optional". Add one layer of details in white and one last one in black. Sometimes needed for corrections and sometimes to add more complexity.

Hope to add a few more pics soon.

Thanks again!

Two more to the Beast(men) unit.

A Grenadier Ghost. Added some stuff to the bottom of the miniature so make it look like it's coming out of the ground. I'm thinking this isn't a normal ghost but an entity made of the very stuff of chaos...or something along those lines.

A Bat from Asgard. More precisely: Giant Vampire Bat FM96.

Very cool work on the ghost, man !
I like the way it blends in the base, both in shape and colors. And the colors are very well chosen.
