Re: Dirty Dwarves Done Cheap
Also a sneaky way to bulk up the regiment a bit.
Painting is by and large done at this point. I may go back and do some more highlights, but for now, it's looking decent. The only thing left to do now are the shields and I'll tackle them in a bit. But for a break, I'm doing the basing. Current progress shown.
I'm also looking to do a few more models later on; I'm waiting on the handgunners until I make another big order of Mirliton to grab a front rank of their metals. But I'm also working on a proper standard for the army. Looking over the blogs everyone here has, one thing definitely stood out that my army is lacking, an army standard. And let's face it; it's not truly Oldhammer until you have a far too large handpainted banner of some kind, preferably visible from orbit, or at least the next county. I won't be going that large, but it's something I'd like to add later on. I like the way the Grenadier metal looks, but trying to paint something decent on that will be more fuss than it's worth. So another spear dwarf will be my army standard bearer. Brass rod has been ordered and I'm waiting on a tube of puree to be finished.
For the standard, I wanted to get away from the usual dwarf iconography; runes, axes, hammers, etc. I also wanted something simple to deal with my lack of experience in freehand painting stuff! So a simple design works best. Here's what I might use for the army; to signify the King Under the Mountain of the non-descript hold these lads live in my little corner of the Old World and how his crown is above even that mighty peak. Or something like that.
