Colony 87: Wave Five

Crooked Dice commissioned a bunch of new Colony 87 sculpts. There's a bunch of new frogs . . .

And several other new alien species, including a tall slender "grey" like alien they call "the pale," a group of six limbed bipeds they're calling "the masque," and a race of bio-engineered dog people. They're . . . getting very newhammer for my taste. The sculpts are mostly or all digital, with all that this entails: the lack of wabi-sabi, the overly dramatic (and sometimes rather plastic) "active" poses, and so forth. I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to throw down for this one, but it's a line I've loved in the past and it hurts me to have to think so hard about this. But for the more middlehammerish among us they might be pretty useful. (They are still civilians, and that's still cool, even if the style is moving away from one particular stick in the mud . . . again.)

Anyway, here they are.

I can see what you mean, it seems to be a common woe with digital sculpting. The large hulking frog in the back is the only one that really appeals out of those to me. I think I'd agree that I prefer the earlier sculpts by and large. Still it's very nice to see the range expanding. I've almost bought some of the first lot a few times now, but have yet to sink the funds. I see the earlier waves are 40p cheaper via the KS, so maybe...
