Classic Space Marine Captains on made to order

I'd not properly clocked the backpacks, nah. I'll certainly skip the captains I think.

Well the historic armours arrived today. Clean casts, but I'd forgotten just how many air gaps and mini gates and whatnot finecast models have. I expect they will clean up just fine, but right now they look like porcupines! Do wish they'd just done them in metal. Anyhow nice to have the full set although I may have to decide if I'm using the "modern" arms/pads/bolters/backpacks they came with or will rummage and use some more appropriate older pieces.

screw the new bits. if they are meant to be old, get some old bits ^_^

for prices over quality, I'm not really interested. The only interest to me is the Space Wolf Captain cause.. without checking, I don't think I got him.. but for the price, I can make one from an old marine and a customised head so very much pointless. (also, my repaint/do up of my Space Wolves was delayed due to the airbrush paint issue.. Just need to make up a batch of paint and try to get some sorted but my Skaven are taking preference)

Interesting, I never had much experience with finecast. Just the odd model so I can't say I remember it that well. I'd just assumed anything "resin" from GW would be that again. This resin is certainly more flexible than most resins I've seen for miniatures - much more akin to the siocast stuff I've seen. It'd be interesting to know how they are doing it, just out of curiosity.

One of my early purchases when getting back into the hobby was a Failcast Techmarine. So many casting gates, bubbles, and obscured details it was painful…

The sculpt was originally metal, but typically rushed into production as Finecast.

A better purposely designed resin pressure mold would have helped I think…

Certainly there are no bad bits of miscasts on these, one foot has a few tiny bubbles on the bottom of it. Just lots of of vents and lots of little what appear to be almost supports, so little triangular braces under overhangs. The largest of which are from the tab to the feet, but lots in places like under the chin, or the backpack nub, the posterior piping and so forth! They all cleaned up easily enough and the resin was very easy to work with (just used a knife). Certainly nice to have them, so they are in the pile of shame now and I shall head out on a quest for my next fix!

No they appear cast. Just seen someone has posted some pics on the Oldhammer Redit - so since I didn't bother -

The 4th armour edition (think it's the 4th - prototype beakie) you can see some bits under the chin as an example.

ooh.. that's a wobby sprue... also.. that much for a resin cast? that isn't a resin cast sprue/pour channels... gonna have to ask some one a bit more expert then me but what idiot would cast resin with a thick wasteful sprue going like that? the tabs would be where the resin is being poured from (thus the channels heading from there cause the air needs to go up) but.. they aren't air channels cause they attach to the sprue.. and that sprue goes under the figures and is filled.. even if they do a bunch of sprues on one sheet.. that... wait.. that funny injection moulding resin? else I can't make sense of them channels at all for resin

That's why I was thinking more Siocast which is an injection moulded "resin". Although I assume perhaps GW's own take on that kind of tech?
