Chap on Reddit claims to have painted some '94 banners

My knowledge of the fantasy game & Motorhead is limited so I don't recognise any of this. Anyway, here's the text:

THROWBACK THURSDAY!
Here's a couple of banners I did back around 1994 for a couple of chaos regiments. I remember I asked Alan Merrett what he wanted for the banners and he pointed at my Motorhead t-shirt and said, "something like that."
Painted in acrylic on cartridge paper, roughly 6cm across.

well.. they aren't direct Motörhead reference but I can see what he is getting at from the first.. though I would have thought Joe Petagno's cover for Another Perfect Day would be fantastic as a Chaos Banner, as that cover was designed to be chaos because the band was in chaos after Fast Eddie left. They got Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy to replace him but.. It didn't work out even though he was a more skilled guitarist. After the album's tour, both he and Phlithy animal left the band. It was really a choatic time for them.

That second one... I've seen art very much like that before... Maybe it just reminds me of a couple of Les Edwards pieces

I just thought I'd flag it up in case anyone was interested. Alan Merrett worked with Bryan Ansell & that was the name that caught my attention.

As for the music,

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man,
You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me...

Ah.. didn't see it was Alan Merrett. Among other things, he did the Citadel Plastic Daleks ^_^

Aces of spades is too well known.. while it's a major one, this is less known I feel:
Ain't a hope in Hell, Nothing's gonna bring us down,
The way we fly Five miles off the ground

A great design indeed. Interesting that it has the 8 pointed Chaos star on there too, as that was originally designed by (as many of you may know) one Monsieur M Moorcock before GW, errr, ‘borrowed’ it. Lemmy’s last album with Hawkwind was “Warrior on the Edge of Time” based on the works of and including poetry performances by (well it was prog rock m’luds) one Mr M Moorcock. A nice loop back round through rock and fantasy history.

Nice! Great banner and good info and research. I don't think MM is credited enough with the invention of chaos (altho I'm sure he had influences).
But I just love the life I lead
Another beer is what I need
Another gig, my ears bleed

Moorcock is credited in the early rulebooks for his part.

and anyone that knows his work.

speaking of music connection.. lets see.. He officially worked with Deep fix, Hawkwind, Blue Öyster Cult, Robert Calvert, Spirits Burning and Smoulder. Unofficial songs were by Deep Purple, Dominie and probebly some which slip my mind.

Of course, there is also the other HUGE connection to Warhammer... On the tour (and concert release) of Hawkwind's "Chronicle of the Black Sword" you have Tim Pollard with his sword play and of course, Tim Pollard is well known for... ALOT of stuff in the miniatures field (Writer, Editor, Artist and Art Manager for GW/Citadel, producted the original Flintloque line for AA.

Seeing as he was Nottingham based.. did he ever find time to pop in for BOYL before his death last year? (almost 1 year ago now)

Understand Tim Pollard regularly attended BOYL, I had a brief chat with him in 2024, he had Drew Williams staying with him and they came to the event together. He seemed a very open & genuine guy. 😥

Have added that concert tour video to my watch later playlist! 😉

For those interested in Moorcock & tabletop gaming, would recommend a podcast I follow https://breakfastintheruins.com/ and the host is running a Moorcock RPG Con in June. 😃
