Caradepato's greenskins

So, I could post these in the Orctober thread, but I'm hoping to make this into an army log of sorts. I've painted up these four orcs, three are citadel and one is heartbreaker. As far as I can tell they are all by Kev Adams.

If y'all are interested, I'll try to take better pictures of them individually. I really liked painting these sculpts, full with life and character.

Thank you.
The skin is painted like this:
Base coat of army painter army green,
Highlight with two or three thinned down layers of army painter camo green,
Highlight with two parts camo green to one part of any ivory colour.
Glaze certain parts with army painter elf flesh until you are happy with the effect (eyebrows, chin, spine, knees, knuckles, elbows etc)
Glaze certain parts with magenta, i use a liquitex magenta until happy with effect (nose, eyelids, inside of ears etc)
Shade deep recesses with a black wash.

I’ll post a step by step guide if there is interest.

So in interest of not clogging up this post with tons of pictures, I've posted a painting guide on my website here: http://tomasmartins.com/?p=60.
For everyone else, here are the current figures I'm working on, two heartbreaker minis from the early nineties (I'm pretty sure the archer is meant to be a goblin, but Imma use it as an orc) and two citadel figures from the eighties.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, having a hard time with photography.

4 more orcs

So, I've finished the four orcs I posted above. I've made a rudimentary lightbox to try to improve my photos, and I feel its working rather well. Going to make a sturdier one out of wood, I think.

No such thing as too photo heavy! And the photography is great. Had two or three of these 30 years ago, really nice paint jobs

Totally agree, never too many pictures! I'm really liking these orcs, the skint ones and in particular the bases really just hit the spot. My based orcs are older and have 'solid' grass bases, I'm now seriously wondering if I should rebase them. Are your larger tufts home made or ones you bought? The two brown/green is very nice and I'd certainly add some of those to my collection of basing bits if they are available to buy somewhere.

Thank you for the kind words folks, it is very motivating.

EricF, the tufts are by a local company, Gamer Grass. I'm pretty sure I've seen their products on various youtubers channels, so you can probably get them in the UK. They were closed for a while because of covid, so they may take a while to send any orders (I'm waiting on some lavender tufts).
Once you get them, I recommend cutting them with a sharp set of scissors into smaller tufts to make them last longer, I feel the size they make them in is a little exaggerated.

In general I need to say I find basing to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby. Don't get me wrong, I love painting, but a figure really comes to life when you base it. You don't need fancy things to get a good effect - I bought the tufts not just because I like how they look, but also to support a local company. It is not hard to get good results without them. My flock (not too visible under the tufts, but its there) is made of sawdust from my workshop, the dirt is taken from the "mato" outside my house. The clump foliage is made from an old mattress. The trick is to vary the colours and the textures.

Been busy with university work and some newhammer stuff, but I finally finished some more old orcs.
Heartbreaker Kev Adams sculpt from the early nineties:

Two games workshop sculpts from the eighties, probably by Kev Adams as well.

Really lovely work especially like the skin tones used really brings them to life. Makes me want to dig out my collection of greenskins and start painting them.

Thank you for your kind words.
This next post isn't greenskins and isn't really oldhammer (but i'd say its oldhammer-adjacent) at all, but I just have to share this figure with you. Got it in a kickstarter i backed for other figures, but I've completely fallen in love with it, it is chock full of character and fun details. Decided to go for a more colourful scheme then I usually paint, it's such a whimsy figure. I'll post more pics when it is complete.
It is the dwarf cart by Red Bard Games.

So, finished the Dwarf merchant. Yeah, it isn't really a cart, is it? I don't know what the right word is. Anywho, here he is:

That is a wonderfully quirky mini, brilliant and a lovely paint job doing it such justice. I particularly like the roof, and the painted white wood has come out nicely.

Love the realistic skin tone of your orcs...should really try my hand at some pinkish details around the mouth/ears
