While the Tombstone-Express heads for the big jukp across the lava, the crew of the Twin-Mustang calculate their chances to survive with three flats if they fail the jump.

So they decide on a short cut and jump directly into the pit stop for a change of tires and some medical aid for the crew.

Beeing from the imperial guard they do things by the book and waste a turn by parking properly.
On the other hand it is a nice opportunity to listen to the screams of those who fall into the lava.
And the WOOoosSH of MORK 5's booster pack who comes flying into the pit-stop as well.

Oh, great. Couldn't that Kills-on-Wheels just die a firy death? No. With burning wheels he rolls into the pit-stop and while some minions fix his car he opens fire on the Twin-Mustang. One new wheel is flat again and an additional hole appeared in the engine. Morks 5 cowardly jumps back over the rim where he came from.

In the mean time Flyboyz is taken out while others continue the race

And Kills-on-Wheels is heading in the same direction, following the Bel Air.
BTW. it is astonishing to see how far the lone crewman has pushed the Ramshacke Raider already, isn't it?

Twin-Mustang is back in the race

And Tombstone-Express is nearly out of it. Desperately he tries to reach the pit-stop.

And makes it with a little help of a friend.
Meanwhile the Chaos Marine arms his heat-seeker missile and...

brings the Bel Air to a halt on his familiar ramp. But now it is permanently.

Tombstone-Express is back

and Twin-Mustang heads for his first lava-jump. Now in earnest.

And while Killdozer brings the Ramshackle Raider to a final halt

Redback passes the Twin-Mustang with a combination of initiative and a huge jump.
But the Mustang is spurred on by his crew. Never give up! Never surrender!

In this race every inch counts and noone hesitates to close up with the opponent

Unless he has a flame thrower...

Engine on fire and wheels on fire? And I have to roll now EVERY TURN !?

Nobody cares. Everybody races on.

And while Killdozer killdozers Blorko's Bullet

the Twin-Mustang finishes his first lap

and even zooms past the Redback

I am not sure how Borko's Bullet died, but one Ork got out alive.

Finally the Twin-Mustang's Engine explodes

And with their jacked up reflexes it is easy for the crew to bail out but - the driver remains seated.
"Death before dishonour" he says and with the traditional sign of the double-six he makes his fare-well to his co-driver.
Gritting his teeth the co-driver grabs the chainsword and jumps out. Someone is going to pay for this!

Just enjoy yourselves and race on! I WILL GET YOU!
AND I WILL FINISH THE LAP! (The Imperial guardsman's uplifting primer surely contains a passage about jumping an 20+ yard lava pit on foot.)

First I need a better weapon - that ork over there, does he have a gun?
He has a gun - he is shooting at me - AND he has the ammo for the missile launcher - you are dead alien scum!

Withering the ork's hail of bullets the guardsman closes in for the kill and chops his oponent up with his chainsword.

"Now I have a machine gun ho ho ho" - Ok, its a bolt gun, but who cares!
Killdozer! Stop and hand over the missile laucher.
BLAM! Well, that was only a warning shot. The next one will be in earnest!
HEY! Stop! Don't just drive away! ACKNOWLEGE ME!!!

As the race was won by Redback just in that moment, Co-driver Riggs had no chance to reclaim his lost honour and was shipped out to Gulag 7.
This is a penal colony on a death world with an average survival rate of less than one week.
Due to his jacked up reflexes he might be unlucky and live longer.

Hahaha! That was awesome!

Twin Mustang was definitely one of the vehicles I thought would be Redbacks main trouble and competition with that massive engine.

Good to know the flamer was actually useful!

With it being Orktober it was decided at the Essex Legion we needed a race of Death Race 40,000 (lite) to commemorate the Ockassion!

Yep we even had 'the flying off theramp and landing on a load of trukks' moment every race seems to demand now!
