Well, I think that it's time to show you my Undead Army.
-first of all, sorry for my English-
I was about 20 when I started in the hobby of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, the year 1994, 4th the Edition (aka Herohammer). I collected the "Good Boys" at the beginning; Empire with Dwarf ally. But I have to admit that those huge armies of skeletons where amazing! And really funny to fight against them! So, from 1995 to 1998 -aprox- I bought all the holy metal © skeleton warriors that I could, in order to complete one of those "projects for the future"... a never ending project.
Two years ago, I found a big box in my parent's home, and there was my forgotten treasure. Lots of blisters, awaiting for years. I decided to "reanimate them", mounting first and recruiting an oldhammer style painter. Now, it's still unfinished, but you can check that there are not any Monsters or Overpowered Units. It's just a "play for fun" small-medium army, basically composed of lots of skeletons.
Let's take a look. But first, the soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CHqhsMP80E
I didn't want the Rossonero colour scheme, because practically it was the "official" one for all the Undead armies, so I opted for another beauty combination; purple, black & green. The red would be exclusive for the Vampires.
Infantry Units (4)
Skeletons, the cheap cannon fodder just for being exterminated while the Wights and Mounted units arrives, or just to summon a small group, close to an enemy war machine in order to keep occupied the cannon servants. It's possible use the cheaper Zombie attributes for the skeletons in order to save army-points, but I refused to collect zombie miniatures, just were no appropriated for a Skeleton Army.
20x Skeleton warriors #1
Note that some skeletons of the Cursed Company of Richter Kreugar the Damned are mixed with the "humans", because I thought that in the Warhammer's Old World must be all races buried.
20x Skeleton warriors #2
Behind them, my Elite Infantry, a big unit of the fearsome Wights and their Wight Blades. They have the main responsibility to crush enemy units, specially the Elites.
25x Wights on foot
Supporting them, another big unit (25 for me it's a good number) of Skeletons on heavy armor, with the mission of hold an enemy charge, protect the Wights and take some kills with their halberds.
25x Skeletons on heavy armor & halberd
So, here they are. 4 Infantry "big" Units marching towards enemy lines, with the help of Vanhel's Danse Macabre. But they need the vital support of cavalry...
Mounted Units (2)
The Knights. Ten Mounted Wights with the mission of move fast to the flank, charge as soon as possible, and use their nice fight attributes to reduce the enemy ranks, and cause fear.
10x Mounted Wights
In the other flank the Black Coach, or simply a War Chariot. Can be used to support Knights' charge, or to run towards enemy infantry units.
1x Black Coach
And leading this army? Well, originally I thought about the Necromancer Master. That human being who decided to practise the forbidden magic and rise the long time dead fighters. It's great think about a pair of humans commanding an Undead Army, but its true too that those armies, when they lost their Generals, they are totally defeated. So time before, I decided to purchase some Vampires, who were (are) incredible powerful and much more effective in the close combat; they were the Classical Von Carstein and his Ring, and 2 "meat grinders" the Blood Dragon Order knights.
Generals
A first Rank Hero, one Vampire with a two handed big sword. The blood lust will be satisfied, with the pain of his enemies... We see the Red colour scheme back.
Blood Dragon foot Vampire
And as Supreme General of my armies, an awesome Vampire Lord. Riding towards the battle, looking for enemies' Comman. Red Duke was a fantastic sculpture for me, and I decided to add a big undead Direwolf, likeness to Jon Snow's Ghost or Robb Stark's Grey Wind. They march together to the battle.
Red Duke & Reek
But, as I commented, originally I preferred a big Master Necromancer with the help of his Acolyte. Much more romantic, and funny! Lots of extra skeletons emerging from everywere, reinforcing our lines... The Lichemaster, and his Horde, a Classical Undead Army, may be the best.
Necromancers
And finally, A Ghost and the always dangerous Tomb Banshee and her Ghostly Howl. She is ethereal, invulnerable to mortal weapons; clever enemies always will include a Hero with a ranged magical weapon, in order to face it.
Graveyard & Characters
Maybe you've seen the crew of a Screaming Skull Catapult; it's another WiP. I bought a Dwarf Catapult and soon will be my new War Machine, just to get more excitement calculating distances.
And that's all? Well, there are no Zombies, no Ghouls, no Mummies, neither Air Units (Fell Bats) to charge the crew of enemies' war machines... I fixed recently this last point; some Undead Carrions) are comming. Maybe you miss too the useful Light Cavalry, the (Dire Wolves)... but the fact is that this is just an Army for "Having a Good Time", rolling lots of dices and crushing tons of bones. Maybe in the future...
