A slowly growing Waaagh!

I caught the opportunity of this gift -a half-orc shaman painted by my good friend Marcello Rizza (@uollas_uolsh on IG) to rush up a base and test the new recipe for moss that I plan to use on the war chicken base: it involves the use of very finely crushed real moss, previously dried.
I feel the need to get a yellower finish than usual in order to make the beast stand out from it and i must say i find the colour richness of the natural mix quite appealing.
I'll probably add a bit of green filter, though, or the environment will look a bit too arid and won't resemble an actual portion of woodland anymore(i've given the moss 3 hues on the test base: pure moss, +a bit of green, + more green)

If you can't beat 'em on quantity, burry them with quality. Quality has a quality all it's own. ;-)

Your stuff looks great. I don't care how often you do it, but it deserves to make it into our collective showcase when you're ready to put it there. Don't make me move the thread back. :-D

and making your own, very tiny trees.. that looks really small..

what you doing for the wood? Doesn't look like wire..
 
I hope to find some room on the base to place a couple of them, but i'm afraid they will have to be even smaller😅

No wire, all wood: I'm all for natural materials, when possible: the trunk is the tip of a branch of an actual fir tree and the branches are just bits of small roots, attached with superglue.
I then sprayed a coat of anti-rust putty for added strength.
I'll now try to make another test tree with some new asparagus fern (for the two in the pic i used some old asparagus which i didn't preserve or fixed properly...it already lost most of the needles)
 
Ohh, I thought it might be natural.. not many fir trees local to me and I've been meaning to dig up some roots come the summer.

That would be a great way to educate my little niece to the joys of modelling and miniature painting!💡
 
Still lots to do, but at least i put some colour on the base.
My idea of yellow moss didn't work, so i tried a double layer solution, with some yellow visible through the green in the lower spots (as seen in some reference pics).
The final appearance will hopefully be enhanced by carefully applying oil washes.
And lots of vegetation and mushrooms.

I think you are making the rest of us look bad ^_^
though I might question that second image.. just showing off the glue in the dark paint?

Love the glow in the dark! The moss layering I think works well, gives a good natural feel of the more dead material underneath. That last shot of the underground almost makes the base look like a beast in it's own right, I'm seeing the tip of the brown above the snail as a nose and the gap as a mouth in general and the grey rock as some kind of forehead with the overhand giving an impression eyes and then the foliage on top as hair! Maybe it's time for a lie down!
