1988 Land Speeder!

I thought I had posted about the completion of my Rogue Trader Land Speeder but I can't seem to locate the article!

Anyway as part of my ever expanding Rogue Trader Salamanders force I have recently secured and completed an original 1988 Land Speeder. I'm really happy with the way this model looks, but believe me....this old classics are a bitch to assemble...nothing fits properly!!! Don't get me wrong, modern GWs rampant capitalism sickens me, but their models are a lot better compared to their predecessors,

Anyway here it is:

I can't wait to use this in a game of RT/2nd Edition!!!

There are more pictures of the process and painting of this classic model on my blog at: http://classicastartes.blogspot.co.uk/2 ... other.html

I hope you enjoy it!

it might not fit well, but I just love the old landspeeders, way better than the current bumper car design
You really did a great job, love the little detail like the techmarine badge on the shoulderpad.

Yeah I know what you mean, there's something pretty cool about two blokes strapped to little more than a giant rocket; topped off with a big canister of flame thrower fuel! Once assembled it was an absolute joy to paint; I have another one I might knock up soon.

I find it's the little details that really characterise these lovely old models....now I need to paint accurate versions of the crew on foot for when it gets shot down!!!!

Real Nice!! Don't like the model personally much prefer the modern bumper car or the one in between (probably why I have 6) but you make it look awesome

very nice

I know what you mean by the fit. I've definitely had mine fall apart during a game for no reason.

Flippa; I've actually got one of those second edition Land Speeders to do; so I might give that a whirl soon. It strikes a happy medium between the 'seat on a rocket' of rogue trader and the bumper car of 3rd - 900th edition 40k.

Mbh; yeah I've got real concerns this thing could collapse if handled too roughly...it seems worryingly fragile!!

Excellent work on a lovely model, I'm another one that is very fond of the earlier speeders.

I've often read of what a bastard they are to assemble too

It's a shame it's such a beast. Also I am prone to all consuming rage when things don't work properly straight away... Which is unfortunate as this is made of lead; a noticeable soft and breakable metal!

Lovely paint job on easily the worst GW model I've ever had to assemble, you feel like you need two pairs of hands and even then nothing lines up properly. But.. as others have said there's something really appealing about the model! also don't like the current Land Speeder but I was quite fond of the MkII metal kit.

Yeah; I reckon you're right. It is the worst kit ever to put together but I love the image; especially the old picture of the blood angels land speeder that was on the Rogue Trader Battle Manual/ Second Edition Wargear book. This in itself was inspired by the cool speeder that formed part of the 1990/1992 studio blood angels army... I used to love that model...I wonder how many staged battle pictures/dioramas it appeared on in White dwarf!!!!

I know what you mean; there was always something so appealing about it. It just summarised what space marines were back then; deadly; psychotic shock troops. That picture and the other blood angels one with the gold captain leading the very 'rounded' terminators are my two favourites from this period!!

I also put it together before I knew how to pin or use green stuff

Yeah pinning is vital on this beast; but the parts are so fragile and bendy that you have to be really careful; if you're too forceful with the drilling/punning the whole thing will collapse!!
