also, bad planning on the part of the sculptor. reminds me of how they screwed up the £2 coin in the UK where between the original design, and the final produce, they removed a cog so it goes from a symbol of British industry doing well, to a symbol of British industry not working at all. Silly people

You could embrace the asymmetry and emphasize it. Maybe do several groups of three and one of four? Or select four colors and allocate them to feathers randomly? (Allowing dice into our painting feels on theme.)
