Not to hijack the thread, but Sarissa Precision have some impressive pre-painted mdf buildings: https://greyfornow.com/collections/guards-of-traitors-toll-terrain
Pre-painted?
isn't that a swear word? well.. depends.. pre-painted or 'painted by someone else' are two different things to me.. I did, when young, buy a couple (In fact, I think 2) shop painted Miniatures.. one thing they were (at the time) they only way to get hold of them figures which I couldn't get anywhere else at the time (well.. there was pretty much two shops.. one was in town, the other was a few towns over and a bit of a trek). Funny, I only have 1 of them figures now unpainted for my own paint job.. Oh and also cause I was very bad at painting at the time.. but I don't really define that was 'Pre-painted' like stuff you can buy in silly toy packaging.

I think you can get embossed wallpaper with a suitable stone effect. Sure I have seen it online sonewhen.
That will have been https://www.diy.com/departments/metallic-effect-embossed-wallpaper/1521415_BQ.prd alas now no longer sold. Presumably all stock was bought buy gamers after watching Luke from Geek Gaming:

I expect there are others, but finding them is the tricky bit. I've seen this one used for cobblestones, but it's not very "wall like" - https://www.homeflairdecor.co.uk/be...ure-pewter-wallpaper-by-seriano-gb-6174-p2982

Check it out before disparaging it:

Perhaps more precise to state that it is pre-printed rather than painted? WI did a tour of the factory where you can see better how it is produced:

So since I love a new project and it's probably better to have a pretend one ... this is how I'd go about pimping the castle.

So if time and budget were on my side I'd grab some of my thinner high density XPS (3-5mm say) and cut out some bricks/stones - texture them a bit. Then start laying them on the outside of the walls. I'd use 10mm XPS at the top to bulk out the ramparts - again on the outside, probably sloping the bottom of those pieces to marry up with my "brick work". On the inside of the merlons I'd probably use Apoxie Sculpt to add a thin layer of material to texture - I'd carve blockwork into this, that will help keep the ramparts nice and wide. I'd repeat the XPS foam bricks on the inside of the walls. I'd then cut up some cardboard of differing thicknesses and lay a semi random patter on top of the ramparts to create a nice flagstone effect, some thinned filler over that to help "mess it up" a bit and add a tiny bit of texture. Then some detailing with balsa and so forth.

If on a budget then I might look to use egg-carton cardboard to make stones for the outside as this has some texture to it already.

really? mm.. I think my Goblin huts are by them but I just took them smaller doors for being Goblins. The doors I normally make are about 35mm tall, about the same as townscapes and seams more of a good size, though technically a little small. most local castles and stuff have pretty big doors for the normal ones.. not quite sure why

Gonna need a name for the castle, castle anthrax is taken so cat use that.

Unrelated thought I had earlier, why is castle greyskull called what it is when it's green?

Originally it was Grey with a tiny bit of green-ish for effect.. over the prototyping stage, it ended up being green stone.

in the cartoon, it was the built on the skull of a large monster.. but they never showed the monster and didn't mention it.. the concert/model sheet art for it is nice though... but I'm not a fan of what the later things (like the cartoon) did to He-man and all the retconning to make Skeletor He-man's uncle is just.. ugh

It can be pretty easy to scale up 1/72 kits by applying new doors, windows and other embellishments. I've been working on an Airfix La Haye Sainte by doing just that which is coming along nicely. I also have that MiniArt castle which I plan on using, in conjunction with a huge Helm's Deep toy, to make some town walls. I'm really confident that they'll all work just fine with appropriate bits and changes.

Castle turned up, I opened the box and it smells like a cremated jigsaw puzzle. Just sticking the last two towers together now then I can think about detailing it.

He's coming. The Hooded Man in tights is coming!!

Now I gotta detail and texture everything, and make a moat. Might make some mini dioramas for the courtyard, guard warming himself next to a fire, a few horses looking suspicious, couple of peasants sat in their own filth, the usual things you see in a Bretonnian castle.

May as well start a thread here for my Brets and Skellybois now I've sussed out how to share images, time to focus on painting instead of buying lol.
