đź“– What are people reading?

Soz if there's an existing thread. But what are people reading/ have read? We're having a bit've nostalj over Moorcock on another thread but some inspiration and tips would be welcomingly received. And if you can't read, that's also fine, just tell us what you'd like to be able to read, if you could, and stuff.

Cor, I might have to look at the Medieval village one, is it good? I'm guessing non fiction? Or not?
Also want to peer into that Hammer book!
(Nice set up BTW - well jealous)

Hi, just finished Fritz Leiber's 'fafhrd and the grey mouser' novels in various compendiums. Very good. Missed them in my youth. Found 'Sword in the Shadowlands' a sort of honoury follow up novel written by another author who was Leiber chosen inheritor. Read all of the moorcock eternal champion ones. Brilliant. Dancers at the End of Time was just...Mad, Mad ending. Rereading Corums knight of the Swords at the moment.

Currently reading some Zecharia Sitchin, I love me some ancient aliens theory's.
After that I'm going to start Drachenfels again, I've forgotten parts and it has been a while since I last read it. I even had flowing long locks back then, so about 18 years ago.

Finished Elizabeth Moon's Serrano Legacy series a month or two ago. Fun military sci-fi with . . . lots of horses. (Jumping, fox hunting. Fancy stuff, very much not space western.) Which was strangely fun, since my sister was a horse person and rode dressage competitively in high school.

currently? "Stalking the nightmare" which is a 1982 Harlan Ellison collection, mostly some of his short stories with a couple of his Essays. His stuff can be a pain to find for some reason.. probably cause he kept control of his own work.

Just been staring at my bookshelf and noticed my Vampire Wars/Von Carstein trilogys missing.
Angry is an understatement, never got round to reading the bloody thing.

If anyone has read it was it any good?

Back on Lovecraft at present since they are short and I feel like I'm making progress! So just finished re-reading A Shadow of of Time. Prior to my return to horror I'd ploughed through the first thee Robert Ludlum Jason Bourne books (ie the proper ones!) again, hence feeling like I needed some slightly shorter stories for a while!

Soz if there's an existing thread.
There isn't and we've been meaning to have one so thank you! There are a few threads I've tagged as book related for those wanting to head down the rabbit hole.

Cheers @Eric - great stuff!
I always found Lovecraft a bit less interesting than it's painted to be... if that makes sense?
I LOVE the world n Mythos and have played boardgames and RPGs based on it, but you gotta search for the nuggets I think?
Anywaysup he totally changed culture for the better, maybe I need to try it again now I am more growed up?

My personal more recent (but still a while ago) reads were the Iain M Banks Culture stuff, really hard to beat. Such a loss!
Anyone done any Bruce Sterling?
I should also plug my wife's books? (is that allowed?)

Personally, I avoid any boardgames and RPGS which claim to based on Lovecraft cause I find they are... very weak with little connection..

Also have bad experience with the two official 'Call of Cthulhu; (though little connected) video games back in the 90s. The first is just rubbish and the second is a rubbish Harlan Ellison fan story (as in a bad attempt at doing a Harlan Ellison Story.. so even LESS connection to Lovecraft)...

While he was part of a group that did references to each others work, I also find alot of what people have 'added' and claim is part of the Mythos is also crap.. like claiming Cthulhu is one of the great old ones.. what idiot misread the stories to think that one up I don't know ¬_¬

Incidentally, if anyone likes Roger Zelazny's A Night in the Lonesome October I may have written a sequel . . . for reasons. (I read the thing to friends for several years. Wanted to know where they went after London.) If anyone is interested in reading a bit of meta fanfic with some Lovecraft, some Zelazny, and a whole lot of other nonsense, including fuzzy cuteness and bad puns please do drop me a line. I'll send you a copy.

I remember reading them and kind've not getting it. Thought they were quite slow (was maybe 16-17).
That said, I'm pretty ok with where it went.
Eldritch Horror is a great collaborative boardgame, and we had some fantastic Cthulu RPG nights back in the day (Trip Hazard the cowboy was a personal fave) with crazy characters and folk losing their marbles. I guess it's also fuelled Stranger Things more recently?
