📖 What are people reading?

Oxfam bargains (£2.50 each) from way back in 1986, dog eared. Initially it was the Ian Miller covers that caught my eye in the bookstore! Couldn't pass them up even though I have enough to read. Any good?
I've enjoyed all six books set in that world. I'd certainly say well worth a read.

There are many many bad things about The Viking Queen, I will say just one that should sum up how bad it is; the 'Vikings' worship Zeus.

Some films are so bad they are good, others so bad they make you doubt what if you are awake or are having a warpstone stuff fever dream.

Though it is 100 times better than that Boudica film a while back, with her effing magical flying sword... :|

Reviewers say 'Boudica: Queen of War' fails on nearly every level, with universally condemned dialogue, implausible magical elements, and terrible writing undermining any historical drama. The film suffers from egregious historical inaccuracies, cheap production values, anachronistic costumes, and wooden performances. While a few found the action sequences competent or certain villain performances entertaining, most deemed it unwatchable, with many unable to finish. The overwhelming consensus warns potential viewers to avoid this deeply disappointing, low-budget misfire.

^Is it just me or does that look a lot like the Mel Gibson/Scotland movie? I didn't care for the role with Mel Gobson v. England. I doubt I'd care for it with Kurylenko v. Rome, though hopefully she'll turn better as a person.

ugh... fake review which doesn't quite make sense... typical stolen content ¬_¬ where they can't even steal stuff right..

Mel Gibson only does English bashing stuff ^_^.. well.. unless it's against Jews... he really throw away a decent B-star career...

Well to be controversial?
I tried reading Dracula the other month, but I found it too slow and laborious.
I gave up in the end.

So, what are people reading?

I finally finished Frankenstein after giving up on Dracula which I found to be too slow.
That was an error, Frankenstein was even slower and made Dracula seem like a book form of The Fast and The Furious film franchise.
I am back to Dracula now.

Are you talking about my review? Not saying it's bad, just that I didn't care for it, which is quite true. I most certainly watched it. Hollywood got their money from me in whatever amount a first run movie fetched at that time. I regret it, but I had a girlfriend who thought Gibson was the sun.

Dracula starts slow, but it picks up in the end as I recall. Hope you enjoy it. Sorry Frankenstein didn't work out. It's a pretty seminal work, but I haven't read it myself. I really ought to. I quite like Roger Zelazny's fanfic with Dracula and Frankenstein in it. Ought to read the original one day.

Like the rest of Amazon, they also 'curste' what goes into them and doesn't form anything wrote reading or often making sense

if you don't like slow paced I can say that despite loving the novel (not that.. ugh.. film trash version') don't read Carl Sagan's "Contact". Great book which has a pretty damn realistic view of things but as such, it's pretty slow going.

Also would say the same about 'Airframe' by Micheal Crichton which is one of my favs of his (I pretty much have all his fictional books. Just missing a couple of his 'not under my name when I was starting out' stuff (John Lang).. they are.. okay.. some are not great, others are pretty good.

I watch a lot of Hammer Horror and other less gory jump scare horror and I always wondered how the originals of Dracula and Frankenstein compare to the film versions.
The Hammer versions of Frankenstein portray Victor as not very nice to downright nasty and Dracula always as Christopher Lee.

I figured I owed it to myself to read the source material to better understand what the film makers were going for.

(I 'rage quit' the new Frankenstein film last night :P )
