🎶 The Ballet of the Brushes 🎶

(Not that I'm any good, mind you. But I play anyway.)

Same, here is my last efforts from years ago back when I had friends. I have done a solo Burzum cover (Lost Wisdom) but I don't have that any more.

I'm the singer/guitarist.

It does now, but I've not really practiced in over ten years and I'm not getting any younger, and I smoke a hell of a lot so my throat is ruined.
Tbh I never wanted to sing, but the vocalist we had kept forgetting lyrics or went out of time or sniffed too much devils dandruff or horse sleepy powder and never showed up to rehearsal so I ended up doing it.

When we recorded 'Down' I was ill with flu really bad, broke up with my partner a few days previously and was homeless, I was running off caffeine, night nurse and buttercup syrup, still got the job done.

Dedication. ;)

What would that be?

I have a collection, but I was thinking bass. (Or double bass. Der grosser Kontrabass.) I also play keys, so maybe I could find something local. Or rent. ;) But flying with miniatures was challenging enough. A double bass is about as maxi as things get without requiring a truck and possibly a crew. (The harpist has it worse, but only just. And she has a sweet dolley, and likely a small truck. I'm thinking about getting a beater truck to move one of those keyboards.)

If it is any help, let's meet at my place in Germany ;)

Ausgezeichnet! Wann und wohin? I haven't been to Germany in decades, so it's past time to head back. And maybe drag my Vietnamese wife along as revenge. (So she can find out what I live through every time we visit family. Though . . . I'm working on that. Slowly.) And also to introduce her to German food and all manner of other loveliness. :) I like this idea. I still won't bring my (German) instrument, but I could bring miniatures, maybe, or just myself and we could jam with a public piano or some such. :) Or if you're in Berlin I may know a guy with a piano school.

Dein Deutsch ist gut :) I live ~550km away from Berlin, Frankfurt am Main. But at least we got a working airport here, not like in Berlin ;)

I look forward to to hearing the first Oldhammer album... better come up with some names! Both for the band and the album. I'm sure there are some suitably cheesy ones out there - Harry and the Hammers and so forth.

Anyhow back to listening whilst painting ... I finally found half an hour to lift a brush and finish up my Ghouls (Heresy ones). Well when I say finish I mean ready for varnish - then I want to add a bit of gore, but since that needs to be shiny best done after the basic varnish. Anyhow to accompany my finishing up I thought I'd throw some In this Moment on in the background. Opting for the Black Widow album, which I think is a good all round album.

Right to accompany my hour with the brushes I thought we'd go for some classic British Gothic Metal and throw on Draconian Times by Paradise Lost. Great album in my humble opinion. I see they have some newer stuff out, so might have to listen to that whilst working over the weekend. At least the weekend work is on the BOYL booking system, which unlike my overly optimistic "one system to rule them all" approach last year is much more "not just good, but good enough", so I might actually get it done! Incidentally some of the rest of the working day has been spent listening to our own talented Symphonicpoet which I've enjoyed.

Anyhow when is this famous Oldhammer band going to storm the stage!? Amazed we've not had any name suggestions :)

I haven't listened to legit metal in years upon years. That is Oldhammer right there. It keeps the best of that 80s style while introducing new stuff and sounding fresh. Nice choice.

Jungle. Painting or not. I do like most types of music but jungle is what I truly love. It takes me back to the raves and the best days of my life.

Lead Rot is a perfect death metal warhammer records style band name, but very much taken by a few things now. Maybe Led Rott?

I recently realised that bands I kept up with in the early 2000s have had 20 years of output I hadn't noticed. Paradise Lost, it seems, are another of these! Saw them at Sonisphere around 2010 and they did a great show.

Seen Paradise Lost 3 times now, seems like it's the same set list each time.
Think today's gonna be the Wicker Man soundtrack day, I try to listen to it at least once a year alongside Clannads 'legend' album.
Might even slap on some Dianno era Maiden (I'm a Bruce Dickinson guy, but Paul Dianno is close second, at his worse he was better than Blaze Bailey at his best and he peaked with Wolfsbane).

Half of the bands I used to follow are now dropping like flies, I did hear Type O Negative might be releasing new stuff, not sure how they can get someone to fill Pete's massive boots though if it is true.

I miss that giant man. :(

Unfortunately Cradle of Filth are still active, can't believe I used to like them, now they sound like a cat being dragged down a chalkboard.

I think they peaked with Midian, although Dusk and her Embrace is the better album.
Half of the early Cradle lineup formed a band called The Blood Divine, bit more doomy sounding, vocals are more Paradise Lost than Black Metal gurglings.

I think the singer was in Anathema, I know one of them was, would explain the familiar doomy vibes.

I've literally just discovered this 'Sword n Sorcery' band a few mins ago.

Kinda got that 70s occult rock sabbathy kinda vibe with a teasing of Iron Maiden and Cathedral (to my ear at least) and a decent female vocalist.

Any Bathory fans here btw?
