Mirliton miniatures

I just started seeing these and when I looked into the company, it appears they are a reproduction of grenadier minis made in Italy. What are everyone's thoughts on these? If you are collecting are these "fakes", or who cares after 40 years? Price wise what I've seen they arent really any cheaper than the original grenadier figs.

okay right.. I think I did have a bit here or someplace and I did talk with a couple of people.. basically.. Grenadier rights went all screwy.. Merliton do have the rights for some of the grenadier models.. some of which are the same ones which Forlorn Hope do have the rights to. and with the way things are these days, what was probably rights which they felt meant would stay in the country, has become more global so...

They aren't fakes. They are licenced productions of old Grenadier.

Understood, the question is, if you were a collector do you care if its the originals from the 80s or new old stock?

new stock would be better. Less chance of rot and metal fatigue. That said, depending on how often they remake the moulds and stuff, chance of slightly softer detail..

I guess it depends if you are a collector or a scalper or someone that just wants something for the fact of saying you have it. A collector (who wants to use the figure for games or atleast paint it to look nice and stuff), doesn't matter. New probebly better. Scalper, depending on your 'standards', buy new cheap stock, sell as old for maximum money to the third kind they want it cause it's an investment or so they can show off they have items worth alot. But only worth alot to other idiots ^_^;

.......... I am after a certain look - and don't care for the source. Originals from back then, modern casts of the same models, or recently sculpted,,,,.....
This absolutely, It is irrelevant when or where the model comes from, if it fits the style and is priced affordably I will buy and use it. It makes no difference to me if it is metal, plastic or resin, if it is an original 1970/80s model, a modern recasting from "new" moulds or a 3d print from a scanned original. All look the same under a coat of paint.

And depending on things, even high res resin prints will have some tell-tale marks if you know what to look for, unless heavy paint and filing and stuff. Oh and far more brittle.

And that there are NO legal prints from scanned originals. ;)
Faceless Publishing have a successful re-issue of the old Trinity Battleground range (and now working on the ex Demonblade Goth Rats) using scanned copies of original figures. The figures they produce are pretty much perfect replicas of the originals, sadly not the greatest figures ever sculpted/released for sure, but the copies are as good as they could be.

The Trinity figures are done under licence and are sold as printed resin figures or stls, the Demonblade Rats they purchased the full rights to, including some which were not released originally. Their journey through the process makes interesting reading and serves to highlight the infancy of the concept.

there is that group that brought the oakbound Faewalkers and did the lesser quality scanned versions. shame but oh well. New ones at some point anyway ^_^

I almost agree but I have an aversion to resin and plastic models - I did in 1989 and I do now :)
