Warband for Mordheim…

So my local gaming venue (Powder Monkey Gaming) are keen to run a Mordheim day event, so I am planning who to make up my warband with.

I have vague plans to make a Black Orc mercenary band using various Warmonger Landsknecht orc types at some point, but have decided to go for Wissenland humies instead based around the Averlander list .

Going to use an Empire Command Hero with Hammer as the captain and some WA001 - Mercenaries I picked up at BOYL the other year Also looking at adding some missile weapons and these ragtags caught my eye https://steelfistminiatures.com/products/ren-45-german-peasants-handguns-crossbows does anyone have experience of this manufacturer’s range? Am assuming they should scale with the others I have picked?

The minis arrived today! Nicely packaged, the casts of the peasants were very neat with minimal mould lines and flash.

They are the same height as the old Citadel mercenaries, but slightly smaller more realistic head sizes (they wouldn’t get a part as an extra in a Gerry Anderson show f’sure!). 😉

Also ordered some Landsknechts with crossbows & muskets, these come with separate weapons & heads. May have a look for any plastic Empire heads that would suit them.

Plan to give all these models some Warhammer accessories (skulls, feathers and parchments), to better suit the Blanche aesthetic of the game and base them using my card paving method. Will post more updates!

do I point out a minor comment on how Gerry Anderson kinda always wanted to do more live action, and his puppet style changed greatly from the early stuff with overly large heads, to later stuff with far smaller (you can REALLY notice in episodes of Captain Scarlet where they re-dress puppets from Thunderbirds).

^_^;

Yes, I am well aware.🧐 This was a bit of a lighthearted joke. They work fine when together and for skirmish games they won’t be ranked up next to each other where the differences would be more noticeable.

There are genuine reasons the large heads were used and became the “heroic scale” we all love collecting. 😉

^_^ I know

I get annoyed with alot of modern 3d sculpted figures cause they try to go for 'real' proportions which just never look right at all and lead to under detailed faces. but then, I'm kinda a cartoony guy where the face is a major part and bodies are about 3.5 - 4 heads high ^_^

These are from a historical wargaming manufacturer, so legitimate why they may not want cartoony heroic scale models. 😉

When I converted my Turnip28 models it was really noticeable how much smaller and finer the parts were when trying to cut them up and glue back together with my clumsy fingers… 😂

I think there is a truth in this. Somewhat like needing to push contrast to make the miniatures look good, or perhaps how sometimes having flames "the wrong way round" strangely seems right in some schemes. Totally realistic doesn't always feel quite "right", probably because at the end of the day they are games!

Anyhow the figures look good, blend in nicely.

Warband is assembled and ready to prime!

I gave the Steelfist models some extra feathers and prayer seals to “Warhammer” them up a little more. My usual cardboard flagstones hardened with some PVA and bicarb for texture did the job on the bases. Removing the puddle bases and pinning all the Foundary models was a bit of a faff, but worth it I think…

Amen to that!!!
