Years ago... ClueHeroDoQuest

ManicMan

Lord
Okay, this is going back.. mm.. early 2000s I think, 2005 kinda at the latest.. I'm sure I read someplace a fan Heroquest mission which was based on Cluedo (A classic board game which was inspired by the game 'Ludo' (thus the name) but as the yanks were said to not know Ludo, they just called it 'Clue' there... as well as censoring it for god knowns why).

Now.. There is one on YeOldeInn (ugh.. the misspelling in that name is soo hard for me to write) but that only dates back to a couple of years ago. This was LONG time.. Using the Heroquest board and I remember that while it didn't 100% play the same (of course) it was possible for one of the players to be the murderer and I'm pretty sure murders could happen throughout the game, but I might be wrong about that..

I think it was probably online. where? no clue. did I save it? maybe.. Probably on a floppy disk someplace (I do have working drives) but then again, probably not.

I really doubt anyone knows about this or can find it or anything but.. Just thinking about it earlier and made me wonder.. Ooooh, it makes me wonder...

^_^ There was a bit of a thing in some stuff I was around at the time which did making games into things they aren't meant for. While it wasn't all connected, I just lead to me looking around. I'm not sure if the Doom Kart game was ever finished, (using the Doom game engine, via Doom Legacy front end to make a go-kart game), I never finished my Dragonriders of Pern Doom conversion but had some nice bits like a full Harper Hall map based on maps in the DragonLovers guide, Also had a Wyre with Fire lizards which would fly around which at the time, was a big of a bugger to code up. Also made up a full vocal cinematic in doom as well.. then others did it and got noticed while I was.. kinda pushed out.. oh well, they could probebly do it better.. Haven't done any old day doom hacking or anything for years.. there are drag and drop tools now so not much fun.

Someone made Pong inside the Doom engine too. There were also a few fun Thief conversions too. It was kinda a challenge to see what you could get the engines to do. Worked the same in Board games really, but they were a bit easier cause it was far easier to make new bits. But give yourself some good limits, and it can be a real fun challenge.

A blogger I used to follow who goes by the Governor General of Sector Six ran a game of Cluedo using classic miniatures to introduce his daughters to the hobby: The Third Annual Princess Sophie's Holiday Ball. He later ran a game of clue with more gaming aspects a bit like what you're describing in The Breach 2: I'm Finally Back.... I haven't heard the Heroquest version you're describing, but I like it. And miniatures work particularly well with Clue(do). If you find your Heroquest version, please do point me to it. :)

My understanding is that em4's Doug Cowie sold the Grenadier UK rights to Forlorn Hope when he retired. It looks like these old Cluedo figures must have been part of the deal. I don't know why though there is a connection through Nick Lund & Mark Copplestone. Both sculpted for Grenadier UK and Nick developed Cluedo Super Sleuth with Mark sculpting the playing pieces.

fair enough. but em4 still atleast have alot of plastic grenadier stuff so... I guess only some of the line.

Looking into it a bit.. it looks very confusing.. some of the miniatures were via Moonraker Miniatures sub-section of em4, which in 2020 was sold to Forlorn Hope...

it's like a huge mess I figured out where Grenadier have SOME (but not all) of Grenadier's old Fantasy Warriors Rat men, where Mirliton of Italy also produce the same Grenadier ratmen but have some of the line which Forlorn Hope don't have..

So.. two companies there have the rights for the same figures... kinda.. ah, these things are a complete mess ^_^
