Who the Hell is Wulf? Heroic Fighter of Known World

ManicMan

Lord
Okay, Just got a job lot of some figures at a pretty nice price and while minor damage on some of the old ones, that's no problem! new swords, the odd hand and bingo!

Anyway.. one of the figures which took me a while to ID was Ulrik Ulrikson, from the Heroic Fighters of the known world.. well, either the Box set or when they then sold them loose. Sword is snapped off but I think I do have the blade, but either way that's an easy repair.

The weird thing I find is the tap.. "Wulf".. one reason it took me soo long to figure out how the hell this one was (cause I'm not up on that range ^_^ 40 years ago) was the name was throwing me off.. Who would have guess 'Wulf' was the nickname for Ulrik Ulrikson ¬_¬ but this made me wonder.. Who the hell is Wulf? it's a Jes Goodwin sculpt.. to have the tab and year correct, but then last moment changed the name? possible but just a bit weird to me.. Really wonder if this figure was meant for something else. Design wise.. I have no clue what he is meant to be. I know they are meant to be based on old world kingdoms but still. Name makes me think Norse, but look... doesn't really jump at that.

Anyway, looking at the price that figure normally goes for on it's own.. that's a third of what I paid for this job lot and I got a number of nice minis (and some weird stuff).. and I think the sword arm is a bit bend upwards, though I must say it looks better and more balanced like that.

Anyone know anything or just "one of those things"?

1985, 40 years
BC7 Heroric Fighters of the Known World was scupted in 1985 for an 85 release, but finally got released in 1986, thus the tag.
I'm starting to think mine might be a variant. I know some had casting issues so they retooled them a bit. Lost Minis show 5 of them having such adjustments but not this one. Looking close at the arm.. It does look much better with the pose and with the sword raised more, I think would be easier to cast on a spin-casting.. though that original doesn't look fantastically hard.. and looking at the arm.. I'm debating if it has been bent or tweaked.. I'm thinking a bit more tweaked.. but I can't 100% say. gonna need to take a close up shot a bit later

why these camera's need to fake the resolution and thus make them too soft I don't know. I would prefer half the res in return for a sharper image but oh well

Haven't fixed up the sword yet cause not really any point until I'm gonna do something with it, either way, I'm still really in toy minds to if this is a variation with some small tweak to that arm, or it's been bent.. here is a shot from Lost Minis:

I do think the up arm in my copy is Way better balanced and natural.. with the wrist bend on the 'original', it's gonna really wear your arm from that sword weight, but I think it's a bit of a tuff call

A variant of this sculpt is part of the C01 'Fightr' series. Seems to change his name quite often, stuff like 'Aldis' and 'Celric'. Mightbe he's named 'Wulf' on some other catalog. The variant has an axe and a horned helmet, so some northern moniker seems quite apt.
