White Dwarf Flamers of Tzeentch pictures

Hi there.

I'm looking for 'eavy metal studio paintjobs for the birdy red-era version of the Flamers of Tzeentch. In Spain, they were showcased in 1995's nov-dec (issue 13) in an article by Rick Priestley titled Chaos Heroes (I'm translating there). I've got only the badly scanned copy of the Spanish magazine from The Internet Archive, that looks like this:

And the only other source is this tiny picture (the best I've been able to find):

So, Do any of you have an English WD with a nice picture of this painted models that can be shared with me?
Thanks in advance!

I assume the Spanish version was years late because the boxed army book for Chaos was announced there (translated to Spanish), but I bought it in English before. Sadly I can't point to the correct date, more accurately than "a random summer weekend in 1994 or 1995".

Boardgame geek says 1994 was the release date, so I'm more or less correct.

Fun fact: Back in the day I didn't know that my gaming group cheated on me; no one was allowed to read other player's army books so they used the rules as they wanted (hello invisible gyrocopters or illegal rune combinations). When I bought this box they never allowed me to use it since I was the only one that knew some English "and they could not know if I was cheating or not". Cheating was never an option so I didn't see this as a red flag for their bad behaviour. Literally never used the Chaos Gifts system and kept losing games after I gave up and sold my army (army white booklet lists vs Undead, Dwarf or Skaven army books was totally unbalanced).

yikes. Personally, I only read the rule books which related to the army I had didn't have the money to buy rule books which were of no use but not allowed and people cheating like that? yikes.. cheating by mistake is one thing (like just getting a rule wrong or forgetting something, but to do it on purpose?
what's the point?

Just though I would have a quick look through the 4ed Chaos Armies book.. kinda taken aback by the complete lack of Flamers.. Sure they got the rules for them but.. Not a single model shot. Not even in the catalogue pages. Not even any art.. I thought for a second there was one but that is a Lord of Change close up.. SO I guess at this point, the 3ed Flamer was out of production and the new 4ed wasn't yet out. 4ed Battle Bestiary which was with 4th box set shows art of the 3ed one.

Jut looked up.. mm.. the new Flamer was show in WD 1995 Jan/Feb.. 181/182..

ah Bingo!
Any good?

Manicman to the rescue!

Yeah, I talked about that last week on another thread. In my mind there was one, but when I got the book there was the Lord of Change. But I know there's an illustration (not of this version of the model, anyway). I double checked and:

This is the Spanish 57 page, compared to the English one:

That aside, you nailed the problem with that book. It's one of the Army books with less models ever released. At least if you compare it with all the others in 4th Ed. It had 2 pages for Spawn and Champion conversions, then FOUR pages for the Chaos Dragon conversion by McVey, and only 10 'eavy metal pages. Dragon ogres were shown on 3 of those, and only half a page for Slaanesh or Khorne...

That only means one thing: They had few models to show (Dragon Ogres, Beastmen and Knights). Anything else was older or missing. That's why I often have complicated feelings about the army I'm building: The models I saw on those pages never made it to our stores (or in numbers enough to survive the next decades in the second hand market).

The Flamers were one of those "new" models that came after the book I liked (I was never a fan of the beefed-up bloodletters) and that's why those are on my list.

Now, speaking about the paintjob again: You saved my life. On the new pictures you can appreciate that "misty/ lightning" effect the studio used on the bodies. It wasn't visible enough on the digital copies, but now they are. It will be difficult to get something like it without an airbrush, but I'll try (I only need to wait 2 more weeks so the weather is fresh enough in the morning to use spray cans; the usual in Spain).
