WHFB 4th Edition: Ogre Champions/Chiefs?

Despite the 1992 Battle Bestiary including four different "ranks" of Ogres (page 69: Ogre, Ogre Champion, Ogre Chieftain, Ogre Warchief), I am struggling to find any actual Army list which allows for these more advanced ranks of Ogres.

So far, I've seen that both the Orcs & Goblins and The Empire army books allow the inclusion of standard Ogre regiments (40 points per model), but that's it.

The first provision for higher-ranking Ogres I've seen in any 4th/5th-era publication is the 1997 Realm of Chaos book, which allows Chaos Warrior warbands to include Ogre Champions, Chieftains and Warchiefs.

It seems a bit strange to me that five years went by (including a new edition of the game) between the publication of the 4E Battle Bestiary and the allowance for higher-ranking Ogres into any army. And even then, it's only Chaos which benefits.

Am I missing some vital publication or rule here, or did nobody have higher-ranking Ogres in their Armies during the 90s?

As far as I know there were no different Ogres in Warhammer 4th ed in the Army books. Maybe in the Empire book. There was also a Mercenary book but I do not know if this was meant for 4th or 5th edition. The Merc book had a unit of Ogres with standart bearer and a named champion.

You could imclude them if you ignored the Armies books but no Army book gave direct access to them no. One of many errors/oversights in the various editions over the years.

I checked my old books. In the Empire book you could have a unit of ogres with the ussual command group if you pay extra for them.

It gives access to a standard bearer and musician yes but it doesn't give access to ogre characters though does it? Just as it doesn't allow Halfling or Dwarf characters even though you can include units of them.

Jepp that is right. No specials, just the ordinary command models. I do not know why. Maybe this is one of the many ideas that did not find their way into the lists. Sad thing if you ask me.

The Dogs of War book was 5th Edition and the aforementioned unit is Golgfag's Ogres and the standard bearer is called Skaff. One of the US White Dwarf #234 has rules for non human mercenary generals in 5th Edition: Dwarf, Elf, Dark Elf, Ogre and Orc - no halfling. :(
