Where have all the children gone?

Okay, I can get that Children miniatures aren't often made in games of war, despite a long and.. controversial history of their direct involvement but NPCs like villagers, random civilians etc miniatures used to be.. well, made with various children for Fantasy, modern and sci-fi..

But there doesn't appear to be a huge lot of them these days, and even less within more classic designs. looking around... there really doesn't seam to be much I can find..

Right now, I'm mostly trying to find a long hair peaceful/innocent looking girl (child) in a simple long dress. though there are others later on, it's more just looking for stuff and finding a ... big gap in the market.. I have kinda made do with some more specialists (I have one miniature that is taking forever use to having to sculpt a full head helmet of a ... certain type which is a bit tricky for me so I'm having to learn and experiment, and a couple of figures I'm having to do alot of filing and some editing of hair styles and the link to get as close as I can and.. try to use paint to trick bits into looking right).. using old Doctor Who Blacktree/Harquin/EOE miniatures, but sometimes, you can only do soo much.. and even then.. they didn't really use children much.. some of the younger companions were younger or atleast played younger (hell, Carole Ann Ford was in her 20s and married when she played about a 16 year old).. and the Movie Susan which is probebly about the right size is completely wrong..

I know sculpting smaller figures is much harder but.. is there just a huge lack of many different types of children and stuff or I'm I just looking in the wrong places and using the wrong 'search words' when trying to search through huge online stores?

You really didn't give me much room for half baked jokes this time. Unless I intent to be deleted from this forum.

Maybe using Warmaster Empire haha or something. There are plenty of miniatures of kids. Did "stumble" on more then few before.

There were more companies produce them as villagers of all sorts. Cannot remember, but I think it wasn't Ral Partha Europe and Mirliton companies. Cannot remember. Will post if I remember, of course.

I'd second Hasslefree, there are a few specific child minis along with plenty of younger characters. I finished a copy of Alyx just recently, although she doesn't look innocent with the pistol or baseball bat! Crooked Dice have some specific companions if that's specifically what you want, no long dresses however. Reaper have a selection of kids. Few sci-fi kids from Hydra. I think there are a few in the Dunkeldorf range of town minis.

Maybe given the ranges are rather scatters a pinned thread would be useful?

yeah, I did look at Hasslefree but while a nice range, they aren't any for some of my.. probebly tricky requirements ^_^

forgot about midlam. I'll be looking at some the others too but I was having a problem finding much and not too much of use for me..

I do wonder about a pinned thread of where some old sculpts have ended up atleast.. Foundary have some old stuff (though i think they have more then what is on there website) and some other companies around the place have old stuff still in production..

I think it would be a lot of work to try and do a break down of what type of miniatures are where.. Though that said.. mm.. I can only think of about 3 companies doing Firimi-like, most do skeletons and zombies and standard human fighters.. might be interesting list through.

funny but the only one that I think comes close is Midlam's Vampire girl.. but there is too much that I would have to work on.. like removing the bear, changing the head, removing cape.. gets to a point where it isn't worth the fuss.
