When is an army finished ?

Hi

I am almost finished an O&G army for 3rd edition, a few figures off everything painted & based, and ready to move on to a dwarf army. However, I was still tempted by some old O&G plastics going cheap on the facebook page, even though I have all the infantry I could need or want already. The only think I intend to go back and add is 5 wolfriders and maybe a lead belcher, but I still had to urge to pick up more figures I don't need.

At what point do you declare an army finished and move on, or are projects ever truely finished short of maxing out every option ?

It is finished when you don't feel th eurge to work on it full time and want to move onto something else but that doesn't mean you can't come back to it every once in a while to add a character here or an engine there, a couple of champions or whatever.
A model has got to be finished (given a standard) and so has a unit (even ranks, a good size, whatever) but an army, as long as it's playable (and it can be playable failry rapidly) doesn't have to have an upper limit...

An army is never finished, you just abandon it temporarily until you see some another eye candy

But at some point you need to find your balance and be able to pick some other stuff instead of collecting just one army. That's the way you'll end up collecting dozens of armies while fighting against your lead Diogenes syndrome

An army is never finished, there will always be something to take your fancy. You say you have all the orc infantry you could ever need? Does that include the option to equip them all with spears or two handed weapons or two hand weapons as you choose? Have you considered all the mercenaries and allies?

I can comfortably make 10000pts with my orcs and still the horde grows. Oh and I think my horde is nothing compared to Golfag1's.

As the others have said, it's never finished, especially if you game it, which gives you a chance to find weak spots in your defences.

Having said that, I've finished my Dark Elves, as they're unlikely to ever get a game, and I can't be bothered to paint any more of the buggers.

What is this saved search you are on about? Am I the only person that just clicks on the war gaming section and browses?

I occasionally sit on the first page of 'ending soonest' and grab the bargains, yeah.

I say it is finished mostly when you decide it is, but also when you have a goal and complete that goal.

I say this because I have completed my orc army.

I can say it is complete, because I have painted all the orc models I wish to be in it.

I have 3 orc models that I do not wish to be in it and they will go on sale with some other things.

Will I add an orc trebuchet? Possibly, but this does not mean the army is unfinished. All models are painted and based and ready. If I start something new to add to them, then when that model is done - they will be finished again.

When is an army finished, good question and one that I have come to realize I don't know the answer to, example my Green skins started off 100 - 200 orcs - I then added a few wolf riders, which expanded into a force in its own right, backed up with a few chariots, which led to the introduction of the goblins and their machines of destruction and thus the giants and finally to add a further bit of colour the Trolls, oh and sorry, I almost forgot the Ogres; and that's how I got the stages of having around a thousand figures painted and the rest, I've hidden in the attic! Oh god what have I done.
