What about a Realhammer mini-con?

Fellow gamers of a certain vintage. As some of you may know, I have mulled for some time upon the idea of a 'get together' game in the future, with Sheffield Triples as a venue.

However, it is no secret that there are elements within SWS who do not like nor will they seek to include fantasy gaming, seeing it as a 'pure wargaming' event.

And so, what about a weekender, up in Sheffield, at a well priced, family friendly venue, with good bar, cheap convention food, and which could also house a few trade stands?

Charge the trade stands say £30 for the weekend, and make them fantasy, and maybe 'old school' only? And of course a tabletop sale/B&B.

Let me have your thoughts... We could even aim for a school holiday to make it a bit less of a strain on those from the border marches. And thereby, we can get all our generations involved, and also showcase 'How we used to play'.

Not difficult to arrange, and not expensive.

A friend has suggested a table for each of 1st, 2nd and 3rd eds respectively. Perhaps if there is enough interest a RT table.

PM me with your thoughts please. I am just mulling things over, and although I was going to make it a private get together for those of the Sheffield 'old guard' of my youth, it may be nice to make it 'something more'.

Realhammer?

It's all about Oldhammer here I'll have you know.

We hate those Realhammerers. Splitters.

;)

Also, check out the plans for BYOL 2014 in the wargames shows section.

So what is this Realhammer malarkey? Anything like oldhammer?

Your shindig doesn't half sound like bring out your lead happening in Nottingham not a million miles from Sheffield. As I can only get so many day passes a trip to Sheffield for a day like an oldhammer day probably isn't going to be my top priority. I suspect the same will be true of other people from the broader marches.

However why not organise it, make it awesome and then we'll all come.

Apart from the Trade stands and location, it sounds pretty similar to the Oldhammer day?

You have to remember, we're a small and geographically diverse bunch, there are probably only a couple of hundred active 'Oldhammer' community participants, so getting any more than a handful to each event is a challenge. Add in multiple events, and they get spread even more thinly.

I am maybe up for it, depending on when it will be.

I'd love to go to the Nottingham Oldhammer event, but its in August and I'm a farmer, so that ain't happening.

I was looking at 2016/17...

As I have about 20 Realhammer (1st or at a push 2nd ed players) from 80s Sheffield who are dispersed all over the shank, I had originally planned to just have a get together for them, as some of us have not met up for 25 years.

However, I'd not be adverse to others joining us for a weekend of fun.

I am also part of Sheffield Wargames Society, who appear to dislike us fantasy games at the Triples show (indeed until about 1983 there was a ban on fantasy at the club, but the sheer mass of fantasy-obsessed youth, who arrived with yours truly got that overturned) and so, although I'd originally planned to have a knees up at that show, I thought it would not be right to give them the benefit, unless they become more open to people who 'play with space goblins'.

So there you have it...

Besides, my Nippon Army will need 10 opponents to take it on ;)

And I think I'd be tempted to go for October when shows start to thin, and kids get that last holiday before Xmas and the really bad weather.
