WH Armies book - different editions?

I've got the soft back version dated 1991 - & I was loooking at the Orc & Goblin list from WD 102 - and noticed many of the points values were different - I assume the WD list is taken from the original print run - are the hardback and softback versions significantly different? The cost of the Man-mangler is significantly increased; the price of magical standards halved as an example.

I've not seen the softback version, but an extensive errata to the 1st Ed Armies book was printed in WD after publication. I can only assume the reprint corrected the errors?

The soft back version appears to contain the errata. At least it does for the dark elves.

Several years ago I got a soft back edition to use for games preserving my original hard back fro special occasions...

Anyway I didn't' notice any points differences but then I wasn't looking. There are however a couple of extra war machines in the orc list. Three man bolt throwers and stone throwers, these often end up in my army. I haven't checked if it includes all of the updates from the WD Errata one would hope it does. That said I don't remember magic standards being included in the Errata.

My Man mangler is 93 points. I'm guessing that's the cheap one as that seems very good value for something that hits with the power of a small tac nuke.

I can confirm the only difference between the 1991 softback and 1988 hardback edition versions of the O&G army lists are that the 91 edition has the Orc Stone Throwers unit type in addition to the Man Mangler. The 88 edition just has the Man Mangler. Chaos Warriors are the same cost in both lists. Anyone else think of any rumoured differences? I'm happy to check but can't be arsed trolling through the whole book for them!

Thanks for checking that - so is it the White Dwarf 103 extract that is somehow different? The point value for the Man-Managler is 63; a Sticka is 3 not 3.5, and amongst other changes you get a war boar option with the Goblin Chariot.

I'm wondering if the WD103 extract was a draft that was amended for the actual publication, unless of course there were two versions of the hardback?

Yes, WD articles were previews, it's the same for some RoC articles where the final versions in the book were different from what was previously published in WD.
