WFB3 art - Who's dat?

ManicMan

Lord
Just flipping though the 3ed rule book for WFB and giving a minor chuckle of the re-used art like Elric, The warlock of Firetop Mountain etc.. when I noticed something which jumped out at me as really weird..

On page 152, the section talking about Magic, there is the following art by.. well, I think it's Russ Nicholson but I might be wrong.. quick scan and clean up:

now.. That is SOOO not warhammer Fantasy Battle.. Even giving some tech of dwarfs and the like, that is FAR too fancy gear on him to a point that it would look more at home in Rouge Trader. While he was a GW artist, if it was Russ Nicholson (I'm 90% sure it's him), I'm gonna go and say it's from a FF book originally.. but... I can't say I have enough knowledge to say which one.. or even guess at what he was meant to be in a WFB sense... Way too tech heavy... any ideas on either of them (well, 1) confirm it's Russ Nicholson, 2) which FF book (if any) it's from, 3) what the hell is him meant to be in WFB)

yeah.. I heard recently that he had died (and Chris Achilleos back in 2021). Both good artists.

looking at that stuff on that post.. while most of it is good, I'm not too sure about his Skaven image.. from the design of the 'Horned Rat' icon in the back, I'm guessing it's Skaven but.. good image but not really sure on that Rat costume design. While some of his work is a bit 'gritty' in texture for my taste, its all really good detailed work with alot of attention to detail and expressive characters..

Thanks

Doesn't feel out of place to me. Looks like the kind of thing Leonardo da Vinci might have built which puts it slap in the middle of prime Empire territory to my mind.

maybe.. The eye gear is bit iffy but the 'brain' link up, glowing view machine, cyber skull with light bulb, what looks like a digital wireframe display etc..

de Vinci is often given more credit that he deserves for his drawings and advances on other peoples ideas but that's not to say he wasn't pretty impressive.. Shame none of his original paintings still exist.. we have had to make do with reconstructions
