WFB 3rd Edition Chariot Rules

person

Serf
Just finished first game of 3rd edition in many years and wondered about what happens when a chariot loses combat. My orc chariot lost combat once, the first time the crew were knocked over and the second time one was killed. The first time I had it remain in place (as it said that they don't suffer pushed back) and the second time I rolled a rout test for 25% casualties (1 out of four counting wolves or 50 counting orcs). What should I have done?

Hand-to-hand Combat
Hand-to-hand blows are directed against the chariot, crew, and draft animals as a whole. It is
not possible to direct a blow specifically against either the crew or the draft creatures.
Chariots have a WS equivalent to that of the fighting crew (highest WS is used). Note down
the number of hits scored during the combat phase. At the end of the combat phase consult
the chariot damage chart.

A chariot is not an unit and should not use any of the unit specific rules like push-backs etc.
