Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan Ansell

Calling all Oldhammer'ers looking to get word out and would like to ask for help here.

Just got word that Warmonger Miniatures the new 28mm Fantasy miniature company from Bryan Ansell is ready to go.

(Marcus Ansell said he did not want to be seen as pushing or pressing people to pass this on, and can appreciate that. So no obligation.)

However one does think this could be a boon both to the Oldhammer Community and the new Company if we get word out by just spreading news on people Blogs, Forum - Miniature companies areas, FB pages, Twitter, Pintrest and Google+.

So said would ask the community to see if anyone would be interested in looking to get word out.

Details:

Goblins, Orcs, Ogres, Trolls and all sorts of Greenskins. Where will it end?

Warmonger is a new miniature company from the Industry renowned Bryan Ansell, Diane and Marcus Ansell alongside sculptor extraordinaire Kevin ‘Goblinmaster ‘Adams.

Our Mission, is to go back to basics and develop our own new fantasy range of tabletop miniatures. Kevinand Bryan have been working on the Warmongerers for about a year now and we have about two hundred Warmongerers to get through too. We will also be going back to the original master moulds and bringing over two hundred of Kevin's fantasy models from 15 years ago back into production.
We admit It's been hard to predict how long this process is going to take, as we have a very large number of masters, master moulds and production moulds to get through and we are a small indie team.
It would be nice to think that we will have done most of the work within 18 months. We will start out relatively slowly and accelerate as things progress, as we value quality over poor quantity. Now we are ready and going live with our range.

Meanwhile Kevin will of course continue to sculpt.

We're calling Kevin’s new range GREENSKINS. It includes many sorts of Goblinoids in all shapes and sizes, and a remarkable number of viridian representatives of the fair sex.

While we were sculpting the first fifty Greenskins, we were putting photos of the sculpts up on our splendidly disorganized Warmonger Facebook site. You might also like to watch our strange video. We will be delighted to receive comments and questions To keep in touch with what we are doing you can join our mailing list, follow us on Facebook and keep checking back.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

These look great. Since seeing Kev's massive orcoids at BOYL last year I've been waiting for their release, and to hear that some of Kev's old sculpts will be back IP again is joyous news! You know what I'd like to see Warmonger as? A collective of the wonderful Oldhammery projects that are being brought out around here; Diego and the Pantheon's Thugs, Tim Prow's Diehard Minis, Bolt Thrower minis' beasties. The diversity of projects is great, but just imagine if all these amazing sculptors were combined under one brand, each doing what they do best and without the uncertainty and added expense of Kickstarting everything... That's what I'd like to see anyway, home-grown talent mingling with old masters under the guidance of the man who launched a thousand gamers! :)

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

Honestly not too excited. The prices are too high to be worth it.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

I can't fathom why they're doing separate heads on stalk necks... every single one of the new models ( http://www.warmongerminiatures.com/coming-soon/ ) I've seen look wonky and badly posed. Not even a nice paintjob helps:

(From Dozing Dragon, http://deartonyblair.blogspot.co.uk/201 ... onger.html - hope you don't mind Dave)

I can't shake it - there's something wooden and stiff about them. All in all, I'm a bit disappointed with the new models shown - not that it matters. :) I haven't even picked up any of Kev's fantastic models for Crooked Claw! It's a good thing for the world that the old Foundry orcs are available again, but as mentioned the pricing is prohibitive.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

Yeah they are a bit steep. I remember Bryan mentioning last year how Kev just keeps sculpting heads so I suspect this is an attempt to make use of everything Kev's done.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

From what they are saying, it looks like the extra heads are going down two options, conversion options for other miniatures, or for picking X Body with Y head to allow greater options when it comes to what you want. They are just currently getting to grips.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

what I don't get is that they glued the heads to the bodies. I can only assume that they wanted them to look good in the blisters, but that kills the advantage of having separat heads. I hope that that was just a test run.
And I agree, the prices were in an unexpected range.

I agree. it pains me to say this, but I really dislike the models shown so far.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

It's a nice retro range! I like that there's a lot of variety. The only things that really strikes me as odd is that at least 50% of the miniatures are on one leg as if they're dancing or something.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

On all of the photos I've seen, the heads are totally out of proportion to the bodies, not even mentioning the giraffe necks.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

I'm sorry to say but I think they are not to my liking at all. Weird posing, gombeen faces and as others have mentioned giraffe necks. And as for the pricing, sheesh. Compare them to these new goblins from Paul Hicks and they seem even worse.

My advice on those upcoming Warmonger figures would be to melt them down, destroy the moulds and pretend they never happened.

Ouch. Thats harsh. Well, I somewhat like them - but I also like many Flintloque miniatures, so my taste might be...different.
But price and fixed heads are an issue.

Alternative Armies figures are about £2 a pop from memory. Whilst I'm not a fan of either range, AA's at least are priced appropriately.

Those gobbos look amazing.....

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

I quite like some of them, the 'meaner' looking fellahs mostly, like this one, but they seem to be few and far between.

The necks are a bit too long, and many of them seem to be Kev's trademark comical/evil mix but with too much comedy.
I can't see myself buying many of the greenskins, though I'm not a greenskin connoisseur in general. But the upcoming beastmen certainly would be more to my taste.
Even for oldhammers like ourselves, the range of choice on where to spend our pennies is quite wide, with modern sculpts from many small companies, including awesome sculpts by Kev for companies like 4A, and the various projects that have sprung up to cater to the tastes of old fellahs with a few quid and a fondness of nostalgia the market is more competitive.
Hopefully the beastmen will hit the market soon.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

The stuff currently for sale is nice. Those mercenary orcs were something that I have been hoping to see back in production. But as others have said, prices are a bit prohibitive for collecting the set. Maybe I would get one to be a sort of wandering adventurer or something. They seem to be more expensive c.f. foundry stuff but perhaps when you factor in the size of the miniatures it is not such a difference.

About the new greenskins, I am not sure. There are already a good many many Kev Adams gobbos out there, and also recently I am seeing a lot of good gobbos of different styles, like the trollforged ones and so on. So these would have to be a bit special to really command my attention. Some of them seem to be quite charming. I think one would need to chop off the neck and drill and pin the head then tidy up with greenstuff. Bit like with the c28 giants. Shields with funny faces would be good, especially if there are some that would be suitable for beastmen/chaos warriors etc. Some people on this forum have showcased some amazing oldhammery painted shield designs, but for those like me without the brush control, some designs sculpted by the goblinmaster would be a great option.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

The great orc champions are amazing, their faces are absolutely stunning, so much character! Are these the ones that are being re-released or new?

I'm probably going to pick up some of the scouts and the shields when they're available. The pricing is high compared to a lot of other oldhammerish companies but they're not excessive.

Re: Warmonger Miniatures New 28mm FantasyCompany by Bryan An

Really like the shields I've seen - some here:
Warmonger_shields_1.png

I seem to remember some really interesting stick limbed tribal looking ones with frogs and the like - ideal for savage orcs.

I've never been very keen on Renaissance slashed sleeves etc, I can just about take them on dwarves but not on orcs. I prefer the style of the orc standard bearer in furs earlier in this thread, I think the best is yet to come. Pricing is pretty steep, but these are massive chunks of metal. I bet many weigh more than the old Jes Goodwin ogres, and they were £1.95 when that bought you a whole blister pack.
