Warhammer Armies Dark Elves questions

Vassal
I've been flicking through Warhammer Armies working out if I've got time to paint my DE army for the Oldhammer Day and I've got a few questions:

Firstly, on pg 32 of the DE army list it mentions "Character models may ride in chariots included as part of the army's rank & file points allowance" I can't find the points cost for said chariots. Any ideas? I've been flicking through the main rulebook and failing to find anything other than rules on how they work.

The second question I think I know the answer to but just to clarify.. pg 8 states that War Altars cost 50pts. In the DE list they're 70pts. I'm assuming that this includes the two guards. Additionally it's 10pts per additional guard up to three guards not 10pts for the three.

Finally, I realise it sounds a bit stupid, given that DE Shadows are called "Dark Elf Scouts" in their profile do they actually benefit from the "scout" rule? Pg 36 mentions that they can operate as skirmishers so I guess that's it for them?

I've pretty much ignored the DE part of Warhammer Armies since the early 90's and I'm finding some of the wording a bit confusing compared to what I'm used to nowadays. WHFB with confusing wording? Surely not! ;)

Points values for chariots are discussed on page 121 of warhammer third edition.

Two guards are indeed included in the cost of the altar

As for the scouts, if scout is in the title of the troop choice then skirmishers they must be.

Remember, WFB3 and WA are more guides than gospel.

So they are! I'll blame the pages in my rulebook falling apart and being put back together in slightly the wrong order. ;)

Oh absolutely but.. scouts operate differently to skirmishers, see pg 101 of 3rd ed. I.e. they're a bit more useful with what they can do. I'm curious more than anything else as to whether they're "scouts" or just "skirmishers". :)

LOL! Very true!

Just agree with your opponent what you want them to be. Oldhammer (and WFB3) was all about flexibility. In the chariot rules they positively encourage you to create the most fantastic draught creatures as you can.

From a Quick look at the armies book I see that the Shadows cost 13pts each...and are armed only with a hand weapon...no armor. So this is the base cost of a Dark elf (8pts) plus the point cost of the scout attribute (5pts) giving us the total of 13pts...so I interpret that to mean that they are Scouts in the true sense of the word.

But get those guys some chainamail eh?

cheers,

Blue

Ah.. I wasn't taking into account the base cost for a DE being 8pts.

LOL! Even with chainmail I don't think standing their ground to receive a charge is the best of ideas!

@Orlygg - Oh very true. I'm all for a bit of flexibility in games. I also skimmed the chariot creation stuff and the thought of my DE general poncing around in a chariot drawn by four cold ones is highly appealing. :)

And.. cheers for the answers generally guys. :)
