[Warfork Fantasy Battles] The Road To Power Campaign

024-TheRoadToPower-logo.svg

Thanks to the discussions in @ManicMan's thread Realm of .. confusion, I was reminded that I need to finish a write up I started several weeks ago, when I sat down with Michael (whom you might know from my battle reports) and we rolled up two warbands for a Road to Power campaign.

I even have all the required minis in a stash now, just need to get them built/painted.

So this threat is both for your entertainment and to put some pressure on me to get going...

The Champion's Life so Far

Siegfried grew up in the small hamlet of Altvordasenke, Stirland, The Empire, at
the border of The Moot. Never heard of it? It wasn't exactly well-known in its time,
and since then has ceased to exist.

One day, when Siegfried was 15, his hamlet was raided and destroyed by a Chaos
Warband following Slaanesh, led by Waldemar the Pavonine, a very sensual man who
infatuates people due to his attractive, almost epicine, bald head and his glare -
which makes one nearly ignore his three arms and snakelike lower body. Waldemar and
his warband spent a day in licentiousness, excess and bloodshet in Altvordasenke,
leaving everyone dead behind and the few buldings as smoldering ruins.

At least this is what they thought. Siegfried was very early in the raid nailed to
a beam, tortured and left hanging there for dead, but he actually only fell
unconscious due to the pain inflicted on him and his deterioating state of
health. He came to now and then before falling into unconsciousness again,
experiencing the fate of his family and hamlet in short glimpses. Which are now
burned forever into his brain.

About half a day after the Slaanesh warband left, he was found nearly dead by a
group of about 20 haflings, who saved him from death and nurtured him back to
health. They came from The Moot, where Waldemar's warband had erased a halfling
village a couple days ago; the brave halflings were trailing the Slaaneshis, out for
vengeance.

Siegfried, grateful for their help and burning for vengeance himself, gladly
joined and followed them.

When Empire troops chased Waldemar's band out of the area, the troupe lost track,
and since then search for Waldemar. Over time, Siegfried turned out to be more
capable than any of the halflings concerning martial prowess, and eventually became
the leader of the small band.

They came across another Chaos Warband, led by Ingmer the Bloodletter, a young
champion of Khorne. Not knowing any difference in the followers of Chaos, Siegfried
and the halflings sprang an ambush on the enemy. About half of Siegfired followers
died, taking only a couple of beastmen with them. I looked quite grim. Then Ingmer
faced Siegfried - and a strength and fury surged through Siegfried which he had not
known before. He quickly dispatched Ingmer, by cutting him into bloody chops, and
felt his face... shift...

One after another, both halflings and beastmen stopped fighting and stared at him.
When his face stopped shifting, the beastmen fell to their knees and subserviently
started to speak in the dark tongue. The halflings looked rather frightened.

Siegfried's head had turned into that of a Fleshhound of Khorne!

As it turned out, Ingmer did not please Khorne, the warning to change his ways, by
having develop his Beastmen followers atrophy, was not heeded by Ingmer. So when
Siegfried faced Ingmer, Khorne bestowed his power unto Siegfried, choosing himself a
new champion and getting rid of his old, unworthy one.

The Beastmen swore allegiance to Siegfried. When they learned that he was out to
hunt Slaanesh's followers, their loyalty to their new champion only deepened.

The halflings were about to split, after all Siegfried had turned into what they
were chasing - a champion of chaos. But Siegfried convinced them, that this was only
a useful means to their goal; the enemy of your enemy is your friend. The initial
doubts of the halflings faded, with every bloodshet they committed in Khornes name,
and meanwhile they are sworn to Chaos like all its other followers.

Still searching for Waldemar the Pavonine, Siegfried and his small band have
arrived at the Chaos Wastes. Waldemars still eludes them, but there so many other
followers of Slaanesh to hunt down...

The Champion's Life so Far

Estienne d'Peissillon was born as the the fifth and last child of a minor
Bretonnian noble. The family had a small duchy, the income of which allowed them a
priviledged life.

At quite a young age, he had shown faint traces of magïck abilities. As, in
Bretonnia, children showing signs of magïckal powers are visited by the fay
enchantress before puberty, taken away and never seen or heard from again, his
mother took every action available to her to both quell knowdledge of the fact, as
well as subdue her son's exploration of these abilities.

Being the youngest son (17 years younger than his oldest brother), there was not
much to do for Estienne in ruling the family's duchy, as all neccessary tasks were
already taken care of by his father and older brothers. This left him much free time
with his only sister to indulge in the pleasantries of life - festivities, banquets,
jousts, dancing; when he became of age, women were added to that list. Estienne took
every opportunity for personal pleasure, the older he became the more often his
activities ended in debauchery.

His debaucheries caught the attention of a coven master of a secret Slaaneshi
cult, who saw great potential in Estienne as a potent member. More and more
invitations he received were from cult members, for activities organized by the
cult. He attended without knowing what he was getting himself into.

The coven master, himself a capable sorceror, also sensed the magïckal potential
in Estienne.

When Estienne had committed to debaucheries the public knowledge of which would
not suit his social standing well, the coven master approached him and disclosed the
existence of the cult, its patron Slaanesh, and all the power and glory that would
await Estienne, if he joined the cult and swore allegiance to Slaanesh as his new
master. Estienne did not have to think too long, before committing himself.

Over the next decade or so, he got ever deeper into the cults activities, schemes
and obscure machinations. At the same time, he explored and developed his magïckal
abilites, under the tutelage of the coven master. There were also no bounds to the
excesses he would commit in the name of Slaanesh - and enjoy them.

His time in the cult reached its pinnacle, when he was able to summon a Dæmønette
of Slaanesh after an especially pervert orgy - not to mention the development of the
coven's meeting after the Dæmønette had been summoned. Already, there were wispers
that he might become the next coven master, as he started to excell the current one
in terms of magïckal power, and had long surpassed his depravity.

But, as so often on the Road to Power, things developed differently. The morning
after the summoning, something seemed odd with his face. At first, it was not clear,
what exactly, but day after day, the changes became more visible. He had been gifted
by Slaanesh with the head of a goat. Apparently, there was also a connection of the
goat with proceedings at the orgy that initiated the summoning...

At first, Estienne was able to hide the changes, by makeup or the clever use of
fashion. But soon, it was too obvious. So he vanished from daily life, and was
hidden by the cult. His family started to investigate, hired bounty hunters to find
their lost son, and, locally, his disappearance was the topic.

After he just escaped being found, twice, it was clear he could not stay. So he
started to travel northwards, under the cover of night, to reach the Chaos Wastes,
where he could serve Slaanesh unimpeded and openly.

On his travels, he first met Kurti, a giant, in the world edge mountains, whom he
was able to ensnare into an elaborate tale, which the giant just was not able to
unravel and therefore felt compelled to serve Estienne. This was his first loyal,
and powerful follower.

Just before reaching the Chaos Wastes, he met two Beastmen, whith apparent signs
of being Slaangor. They recognized him as Champion to their patron, and willingfully
serve him since.

Now, fully established in the Chaos Wastes with his small retinue, Estienne is
ready to embark on the Road to Power proper, furthering the goals of Slaanesh to his
best abilities.

Unfortunately I only rolled for two Slaaneshi beastmen, and I did not roll for any extra equipment. A newly formed unit receives a standard and musicion for free, but a unit also needs a leader. So my unit consists of a leader and a standard; having a standard is a visual must-have. They have a 50% chance of having a Chaos Attribute, which I did not score for.

I have Beastmen for the Khorne warband, but they have the attribute

Puny

The beastmen's bodies shriveled to one-quarter of their original weight, and their muscles withered almost to nothing.

Do you have any suggestions of how to model that? The only idea I came up with so far is to replace legs and/or arms with human or goblin arms, which are proportionally way too slim for a beastmen. Exchaning an upper torso with a human/goblin one might work as well, although the new upper should have the same height and not be smaller, only slimmer ...

Any other ideas?

I'm not sure.. I might have just mis-read something but.. Khorne Beastmen attack of 7? I think you formatted it a bit wrong with a extra number added in one place ^_^

That said.. attack of 7.. yay ^_^
