Very Minor: Changer of the Ways?

ManicMan

Lord
Looking through some old WD and I noticed a change I was not aware of. The Greater Dæmon of Tzeentch, showing the models, calling them 'Changer of the Ways'. Well.. this is new.

Looking through 2ed stuff.. Chaos wasn't as fulled formed with various main powers, this wasn't until 3ed, and mostly with the Realm of Chaos. Lost and Damned deal with Tzeentch in which the Lords of Change are his greater Dæmon. They are given other known names 'The Watching Lords of Change', 'The Eyes of Tzeentch' and 'The Feathered Lords'.

White Dwarf #109 clearly marks them as the Lords of Change as part of an advert/sampling of Realms of Chaos: LaD but in the same issue ' they are given this name:

Changer.jpg At the same time, the figure(s) were mostly just being sold as 'Greater Daemon of Tzeentch (I'll let them get way with the mis-spelling). I get the feeling the name wasn't 100% set for a while, and I'm sure we all know about how the Realms of Chaos books were a complete mess editorial and design wise, which is why they aren't even in the same format as each other (not to mention the big delay between 1 and 2 and lack of 3) but it does seam somewhat interesting that in the very issue which appears to confirm it's name as the Lord of Change, it's given a big advert under a different name.

So.. yeah.. I just find this interesting.. kinda also surprised that that didn't include this other name as one of the other names for them. (also.. Michael Perry sculpt without Alan?) anyway.. I guess this also leads to the question.. What name do people perfer? Lord of Change or Changer of the Ways?... or maybe Watching Lords of Change, or the Eyes of Tzeentch, or the Feathered lords.

I see what you did there :)

That's quite interesting and not something I'd picked up on. Lord of Change or Changer of the Ways are the better of the names I think.
Did any of the other daemons mutate like this I wonder. I might have to get some WDs out and have a browse at some point. In a funny way I think it's one of the things I found most appealing about the hobby then - watching the evolution happen in real time, the mistakes didn't matter because we all thought it was so damn cool!

I think the first reveal of Realms of Chaos material was issue #104 where it has been already cut up into two books and in a brief description of what they contain, it says:
Realm of Chaos provides full descriptions of the four major Chaos gods or Powers; there are Khorne, the Blood god, Slaanesh, the Lord of Pleasure, Nurgle, the Plague god and Tzeentch, the Changer of the Ways.
it also mentions Bloodthirsters and Keepers of Secrets.

In the final Realms of Chaos, Tzeentch is known as the Changer of the Ways, the Master of Fortune, the Greate Conspirator, the Architect of Fate. So this kinda gets more confusing.. the name 'Changer of the ways' was Tzeentch, but also at one time given to the Lord of Change?

I get the feeling I'm gonna have to try and see what I can find on the first mention of such gods and their dæmon's before realms of chaos...
