Since painting this lot, my painted undead army now comprises of:

Vampire
Necromancer
Mounted Wraith
20 Grim Reapers
20 Skellies
20 Zombies
10 Death Riders
Plague cart
Screaming skull catapult
10 Skellie archers

...a nice little playable force, but tiny compared to the full army when finished. This is whats in my full undead army:

4 x 20 skellies (that can be turned into 2 x 40 if needed)
2 x 20 Zombies (that can be turned into 1 x 40 if needed)
30 Grim Reapers
20 Archers
3 x 12 Death Riders
5 mummies
5 carrion
3 Chariots
Plague cart
20 Night horrors (using for ghouls)- THIS UNIT LOOKS AWSOME!
3 x Catapults
Zombie dragon
More characters/ethereal than you can shake a stick at
Grenadier undead mammoth and rhino to be kitted out as siege tower and battering ram
Grenadier undead giant

...my biggest issue with all this is that the paint i use for bone (dheneb stone - gw foundation) is no longer available!

What a stunning bunch of bones.
Those greenskins look sweet too.

Why not place a Wanted add on a few forum for Dheneb stone?
You may get lucky and get a few pots.

hi mason,

good idea, ill have a look at what ive got (i could be worried about nothing!) and ill pop a request out there. I have looked into vallejo/gw modern equivalents but although they look the same on their own, they must be made of a different palate of pigment colours as they never highlight the same. I have the same issue with the old GW scorched brow that I use for painting furs. Its a great colour to use as if you add yellows/reds/browns, you get some nice fur colours, and if you add white it goes pink which is great for the backs of furs:

Barry, that's a cracking army you've got there, oozing in Old School lovliness :D I too am an avid Undead collector, but at present my pile ole lead lies unpainted.....

Now you MUST show that Night Horror/Ghoul unit!!!!!

Cheers

Gary

Thanks alot Gary - its that old school look that I'm going for. I could go all NMM or crack out my airbrush, but that's not how I remember seeing those cool WD battle reports and vignettes on the WD back covers.

As for the night horrors, it'll be a few months before they are done, but when they are done, I will post some pics. The only thing I'm still debating is whether to give them a standard or not? The unit has a musician (the imp/cherub with the sword and horn).

You've got it spot on, Undead should be dirty and grim looking ;)

Ah, sorry, I thought you'd finished the unit, don't want to rush you ;)

A standard for Ghouls...... Hmmmm, I'd say no purely from the point of view that I do not believe it would 'suit' the unit, as they are after all semi-human cannibals whom purely feast on dead or dying flesh.

A standard fits better to Skeletons and perhaps Zombies as you could theme them as risen long dead soldiers still carrying the remains of their regimental colours!

Just my POV.

Cheers

I was the ne who was begging for more pics :D

beautiful

I never realized how nice those marauder skellies were.

Nice painting with some ace conversions on old lead there! I'm partial to the Kev Adams zombies, but that boarboyz unit is tops. :D
