Twitter rage quit

I joined twitter a few years back and found it was an excellent place to quickly post photos of minis I’d painted and share with the wider community- also a great place to see what ever else was up to. Anyhow I rage quit yesterday. Fed up with Elon Musk, spam bots, and the negativity that was everywhere. I’ve signed up to mastodon to see how that will go @Sleepysod@nerdculture.de if anyone wants to find me on there. and I’ll try my darnedest to post more photos on here :)

I just joined Mastadon yesterday for similar reasons. (I've not technically quit the dead bird yet, but it seems pretty clearly Xed out.) I'll look you up. I'm symphonicpoet there as here. Haven't got anything posted yet. david_ackerman @ the ancient dead webmail with the ya and the hoo.

Was Elon all Age of Sigmar this and that then? No respect for classic lead ;)

FWIW ...

Tapatalk integration offers direct integration with Android's share to tie it into the camera/albums. I'd hazard a guess it's similar on iPhone. So that might be a fast way to post here (not a Tapa user myself so I'm somewhat second guessing).

You can install this site as a progressive web app on most modern smartphones if you want - it's still running in the browser, but that's a bit more behind the scenes. In Firefox it's called "Add to Home screen" and there is a bit about doing things from chrome. Alas right now XenForo doesn't seem to have implemented the share endpoint which would make it super quick to share stuff from your phone's camera, but that might come in due course. It's pretty quick to go the other way, ie creating a thread and embedding a picture from a local album.

If I find time I guess I could use the Bubblewrap tools to actually deploy it properly via the App Store ... that would be quite neat.

was going to post something fairly bit I wrote but.. thought better of it.. nothing insulting anyone here but.. thought better....

Just do what you are happy with in the end. As long as you aren't being a taffer to others..

I find Instagram works pretty well for that sort of thing! Haven’t heard of Mastodon before, will have to look that up…

I didn't understand what Twitter was for but people seemed to like it so I joined and have Twitted maybe three or four times, just doesn't interest me as a 'platform'. Instagram is my go-to for photo dumping but it's crap now that Meta have decided it should compete with TikTok for the low attention spans of da yoofs and only shows people your stuff if you stick up fourteen reels of bad dancing in a swimsuit per day. I might check out Mastodon, but in all honesty it all feels a pretty vacuous waste of time. A decent blog is still my preferred way of documenting and following people's work.

What is Mastodon like? Instagram is pretty much dead since people fake-follow hundreds/thousands of people and never actually see most of posts from people they follow.

I’ve had the most stress free week since I’ve quit Twitter. Now if I can somehow jettison facebook as well…

never started. Never saw the point. IM, E-mail and Forums.. pretty much all you need. IM did include chatrooms at one time but I haven't been near one in quite some time... mostly after more and more of gits who just wanted a fight turned up.. which is when Twitter and Facebook turned up as rip-offs of the older ones like mySpace, The WELL, and if you are old enough, PLATO (I wasn't there for that one.. and just didn't bother much with The Well.. or mySpace.. AIM, MSN (Later, WLM, later WM, later.. erm.. whatever it became before merging with stupid Skype..), YIM and just ICQs.. oh god.. is LiveJournal still around? Photobucket?... I haven't used TelNet for years.. I'm not that old....

I only ever got on twitter because it was required for a particular invite to an event I really wanted to attend. I barely ever tweet. And now I suppose I won't at all.

Yeah, I started Twitter but just got to a point where it wasn't really that engaging. Insta is the best still...although it's declining as someone said...due to the algo changes. Thought Threads might be worth a go, but it's equally poor. I'll stick with Insta and here for now.

Fun fact: you can deactivate a Twitter account and although the profile is ‘dead’ and no
longer visible it is retained for 28 days. You can then log back in and reactivate the profile whenever you want. I’ve needed to go back in twice (to look at work related posts) since I quit originally. And I’ve found enormous enjoyment in then quickly deactivating the account and removing the app. That place is an utter shit show at the moment.

On a positive I found Twitter a great place to view and praise others oldhammer work. The people I followed and those that followed me seemed to be genuinely nice. It’s just all if the other crap on that site that I can’t be doing with. For me Instagram is almost as bad.
