To convert or not to convert?

Hello folks,

I'm attempting to build a Dark Elf force based on the old Marauder figures. I always loved the look of them and thankfully I've got 15 figures from back in the day (12 of which never even saw paint).

The thing is I've also got a complete Dark Elf Blood Bowl team and was considering adding swords and shields to them to bolster my army but I'm wondering whether this will be a good idea.

Converting was (and still is) a big draw for me in terms of miniatures but I'm also aware that with these figures no longer in production maybe its only right for them to go to a Blood Bowl player who will appreciate them for what they are and I should just stick to slowly hunting down Marauder stuff.

Thought it would make an interesting discussion point in any case.

Thanks

Tom

Do you mean the 90's 3rd edition Dark Elf team? If so, they seem to be pretty unpopular models so I wouldn't feel too bad!

Up to you though, on the one hand, I think models were supposed to be used however the owner wants. The less being precious about them the better.

In practice, I always hesitate to chop something up! I almost like breaking/finding a damaged model and justify it by saying I can't make it any worse...

It may be work popping them on the trade threads to see if anyone wants to swap them for some normal dark elves - you could then get specific troop types like crossbowmen easier.

They're the Naggaroth Nightmares set. Relatively simple conversions as I won't need to chop anything off them just add a sword, shield and a green stuff chainmail skirt to tie them in to the Marauder ones. The trade idea is a good one but I've now got temptation to see if I can make the conversion work... Decisions, decisions

I thought we had another topic like this but I can't find it.

I'm about to destroy an old marauder unicorn. Anyone want to talk me out of it?

If you mean to destroy it for anything else that modeling purpose, I'd advise you to have a seat and a good drink and think again... if you're just planning to change parts to make the model really special and in line with that very special project you have in mind, then I'd just say "We're right behind you pal" ;)

The most important thing is to have a collection of models that work for you as an individual...if that means a stock figure rubbing shoulders with a conversion, or just one type or the other, then that's great.

Personally I love converting, but there are some figures which are perfect unaltered... so I mix and match :)

cutting with a purpose

I would never destroy that unicorn for no reason. I would do it to the rider though...

I'm thinking about mounting her on an old Juggernaut being summoned by original Nagash in a diorama designed to see if pure concentrated terribleness will bend the laws of physics.

some ofthe jugger heads are worse than others. The one pointing straight down make the model 20% more terrible.

Of all the surprises, JB has claimed the jugger body. Now my terrible diorama shall likely never see the light of day, so you can all sleep easy tonight ;)

Didn't know it was earmarked for a special project, you didn't fight much to let it go did you?

It's better that it ended this way, there is enough darkness and misery in the world already...
