ThrudBarbarian's War in the North - Norse 'n Dwarf's

Having decided that GW is correct, these are indeed 'the end times' (see what I did there), me and my mucker have started to revisit 3rd edition. This is because:

• It was our first intro to gaming way back in the early 90's

• We had so much fun playing it back then - and didn't even understand the rules

• The rules are great - it feels like a medieval/fantasy battle with ebb and flow

• We're both at a loss with GW's current 8th edition sales & marketing strategy (we're a bit long in tooth for 'shiny new stuff syndrome' any more, but we do like 8th as a rules system

• We love shiny old stuff

• We remember the good old days when people played with painted models, listened to Metallica and took fashion tips from Brian Ansell and the Hell's Angel's (at Games Day - THE flag ship event of said company - a couple of years' back a guy literally had empty bases to represent Tomb King Chariots whilst Mumford and Sons played in the background. OK, I made the last bit up but that's when I snapped.)

So I thought this would be a good time to get involved with the community, get some feedback and generally share the love - the other old dog I mentioned already has - check out Jadawins 3rd edition Orcs and Goblins! viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5466

Anyway, back on topic. I've always loved the whole Norse thing so I'm basing this project on a War in the North theme. I like to think that the backdrop is the onset of Chaos and the Northmen and Dwarf attempt to stem the tide. Some of the Norse and Dwarven holds have already succumbed so I'm starting two armies. The first is Chaos with a heavy Chaos Dwarf contingent. The second is a predominantly Norse army (because I can get Citadel Norse miniatures from Wargames Foundry) with some Norse Dwarf allies.

I need to get a decent set up for photos but here's a good guy to get the ball rolling. Feedback welcome.

Looking good mucker, the blue on the shield of the good guy is really vivid, ill have to keep painting now to keep up!

I think I'd have snapped as well, Mumford and sons

I jest, they have a few decent tracks But, let's face it, in a tournament 'style line 'em up...' then a correctly sized pieces of paper with 'chariot' written on it would do the job; the models being of - ultimately - no importance, in terms of who scores victory points.

When it comes to the Oldhammer vibe, on the other hand, these dwarves tick every box - good, clean, bold painting and solid basing, just the job for creating an interesting, immersive game. Great chaotic looking unit too, and the yellow shields get my vote - awesome! Let's see some more of your work soon

Lovely work! And you can never go wrong with those charming small fellows, they might be drunk and belching but they will steal your heart everyday of the week.

Thanks for the positive comments. I just don't know what it is about Dwarfs I like so much. Maybe it's because I like ale and have a beard!
